If I want to have a photo section in a FWP 7.1 site that is both a fading slideshow and maintains responsive design, i.e. shrinking and growing with devices viewed on, what Actions work, if any, to achieve this?
Or is this something specific to Exhibeo?
Thanks!
See http://jvidartdesign.com/index.html about halfway down on the page where the header is People, the graphics slideshow there, that scales with device, is an example of what I’d like to accomplish.
Cheers!
To be honest, I can’t judge. All I know is carousel is not responsive and this layer show/hide with sequence timer is anyway outdated (to me). Other actions I’m not aware of.
Thus sounds promising but I’m having trouble understanding the directions because there’s so much other stuff I don’t need mixed in there.
Forgetting percentages, text, HTML,rotating, styles etc - and just trying to get a 2 image switch to run on a blank page as in your example - would you (or someone else) mind either explaining it in the simplest of terms - or sharing the file or screenshot?
I tried on a blank page and something is always wonky… I have to be missing something.
Thanks so much - this really helped diagnose - I received an Action Javascript error even with this file -
I quit FW 7.1 and restarted and it’s working now, so that was at least part of the issue. I’ll give it a run through for my application, tomorrow - thanks again!
For me AmazingSlider is the one and only. It’s a magnificent app that’s far more user friendly than any other, and it’s supporting Freeway as well … it got things done faster and more elegantly than Wow did.
I agree Richard, AmazingSlider looks to be a great paid option ( I like their carousel and music player too!) - and they even include instruction for FW - though they do say you have to manually do - “Step 3 - Upload slider folders to your web server” - I believe you can set them up in FW to upload as part of your site upload. (with an action)
Other than the very limited Exhibeo option, FW still doesn’t have a lot of alternatives built in. One would think in this day and age a responsive slideshow/slider tool as a default page building item would be high on the list of basic features.
Great points Karen. I’m hoping/wishing we see a substantial update to greatly enhance Exhibeo in the near future. It does a lot of really nice things, but could do so much more, especially with the direction and focus on responsive web design.
Cheers – Lewis
Yes, you could consider uploading stuff via an action within freeway … but that’s something I wouldn’t recommend for low level users though. But yes, that’s how I do it.
Some years ago, when I was convinced of 85% of my clients need a CMS (today I know that none of them really did, but that’s another story), I experimented much with WebYep. I came up with in total two possibilities in having a “client side adjustable carousel” solutions.
Both had been crap but somehow doable:
A RichText Editor with file-management
Walters’ Carousel.
Both are basically on the idea, having a hand on HTML which enables us to “define” editable content.
As already said crap!!!
Cause a client is simply overwhelmed by this, while for a web designer it’s an affair of 5 minutes to adjust. So why leaving clients with this pain in butt rather understanding that we are part of the service industries.
And for all clients really need a CMS, recommend em:
and if it is a real high-roller, use WordPress or ModX instead.
This is one of the problems with allowing a client edit a slideshow with any CMS. The image sizes/ratio and choice of image resolution can be crucial to get a good result. Making a “hero” image gallery can be a bit of a waste of time as they’re very seldom edited. The designer might as well do them for the client.
The nearest I’ve got to a good solution is using Perch CMS. Any gallery script code can be edited and Perch inserted to help control images/sizes image/loops etc. That is, if it’s actually needed (see above).

Thanks guys. CMS for this kind of stuff is a pain. You are so right. I have a difficult time explaining to my clients why it is better to have me do their photo editing. They don’t understand.
