[Pro] Returning to Freeway! :)

(Hope you don’t mind this little story!)

I used to be a fervent Freeway fan back in the the old 3 days. In fact I think it’s fair to say that the work I did for the university department I worked for got me the the position I work in today as the Senior Multimedia Designer for the university!

However, with this new job I had to say goodbye to Freeway as I entered the world of CSS and CMS…

That all changed recently when I was asked to collaborate in a teaching resource for one of our academic departments, where I was to create a learning resource that could be easily edited and maintained by staff members inside their rather clunky CMS mechanism.

After playing with the CMS it struck me that the easiest way to make a resource that was accessible to the lecturers skill set was to go ‘old skool’ and design in good old fashions HTML!

Their CMS has a basic HTML editor in it which they were used to using - so designing in HTML using Freeway 5 Pro allowed me to develop, test and deploy in the very short time-frame available to me.

What a joy it was to use Freeway again - particularly in the ongoing ‘development on the fly’.

To cut a long story short, we were in uncharted seas with this project and so development mainly consisted of brain storming meeting where one of the lecturers would say “Oh! Wouldn’t it be great if…!”

…And I would have to come up with a way to do it ---- quick!

The project itself isn’t complex or big, but the ability to try our several ideas and then deploy the best solution very quickly made Freeway absolutely indefensible!

I am hooked again and enjoying the luxury Freeway allows in that I can concentrate on designing in a visual sense and not getting bogged down code.

It’s nice to be back…

Hello to all and no doubt I will be assailing you with a myriad of questions as I get up to speed on version 5!

I was interested to read your praise for Freeway.

The program helped me to keep my job a couple of years ago! I work in a small design studio and up until recently there were two designers. A redundancy was called for to save costs, and the decision was put out of the company to independent decision makers who did not know us, but knew our various skills, time keeping, etc etc.

I was saved because I had taught myself Freeway and the other designer had not, simple as that. I use the program mainly at home, but it is still used at work on occasion.

The job is just a job, but I love Freeway!
