[Pro] Rollovers for navigation

I have followed the tutorials for creating rollover buttons and understand the process but can’t work out how to achieve what I want which is simply to have text without the button effect.

I have an existing site www.carolineshipsey.co.uk
The ‘buttons’ change colour on mouseover though they don’t show a different colour when visited - sorry I’m struggling with the terminology here but I hope you can get an idea of what I am trying to achieve in Freeway which is to have different coloured text for the different states.

Well, looking at your code it doesn’t look like you used Freeway for this website. It’s all over the place code-wise. With that said, here’s my tutorial on creating link styles in Freeway. The non-graphic-rollover edition.

Hopefully that helps.

Heavens No !! That site is hosted by SmugMug and the customization is all done through their system. I used FW one a very long time ago but have forgotten much of what I learned :frowning:
Thank you for the link to your tutorial, I’ll see how I get on but may well need to ask for more help.

When selecting an html item I do not seem to have the ‘links’ dialogue ?
I can only see this when I am in ‘page’

What version of Freeway are you using? If you’re using anything less than 5 you can use the Text Link Style action to do the same thing. Or else you could try the CSS palette route in the tutorial.

I’m using the latest trial for FW Pro 5.
However, I think this is the defining point for me - I can’t grasp at all what I need to do to achieve what must surely to everyone else be very simple. I’ve tried to edit the navigation on a template to suit my requirements to no avail either.

Is there anyone who would be prepared to actually talk me through this for a fee ?

Well I’ve given up on trying to start from scratch and am trying to edit the minimalistikal template buttons/rollovers - but I can’t seem to do that either :-(( All I want to do at this stage is just change the text in two of them, am I really this stupid ?? I can select the text and change it but then it reverts to the original.

  1. Prepare a 'Normal ’ image and a ‘Mouseover’ image.
  2. On Page 1, draw a graphic box and import the ‘Normal’ image.
  3. Create a new page, draw a graphic box and import the ‘Rollover’ image.
  4. On Page 1, click the Normal picture and apply the Rollover action.
  5. In the Rollover Actions palette, press the MouseOver drop-down menu and select the Mouseover image.
  6. Click the Normal image and create a hyperlink—in the Hyperlinks dialogue box (Edit menu).

To create the fade:

  1. Select the Normal image and apply the Transition FX action.
  2. In the Actions palette, tick ‘On Page Load’.
  3. In the Effect drop-down menu, choose ‘Appear’.
  4. Tick the ‘Initially Hidden’ box.

In the browser, the Normal image fades on to the page.
The Normal image is replaced by the Rollover image when the cursor is positioned over it…

Clicking the Rollover image opens the web address specified in the Hyperlinks dialogue box.

  1. Type the text link and create a hyperlink (Edit menu).
  2. Click once away from the text box.
  3. Click the box again. Selection handles appear around the box.
  4. In the Inspector palettes, click ‘Item Appearance Settings’ and ‘Links’.
  5. In the drop-down menus, the colours for Normal, Visited, Hover and Active can be changed as desired.

The ‘More’ button below the links enables extra effects to be created. For example, when the cursor is hovered over a blue, Roman link, the colour can be made to change to orange and the style to bold and italic.

The background colour of the text box and the font can also be changed, but it’s rather fiddly. There are 2 dialogue boxes, both titled ‘Edit Link Styles’, where you make the desired settings. It works, eventually, more or less, but it could be more intuitive.
