[Pro] RPL Freeway Pro 5.5

Hi. I’m trying to understand what RPL does in the new version of Freeway Pro 5.5 (not meaning to sound dumb)

Has RPL got anything to do with how people see my website in their browsers. I find that when my friend views my website on her Windows PC, my pages stretch and she has to scroll (unlike on a Mac). I have set my pages to the smallest height I can fit my information on eg. I’m trying to keep my page height to: 768 and have the width set to 900.

If RPL isn’t for this, is there a setting I can set to stop my pages being stretched by different browsers. Another friend said there must be a setting where I can set something to be 100% ???

Thanks in advance,

Kasia

Did you watch the video on this page?

http://www.softpress.com/tour/new-in-freeway-55/

Basically it turns a regular drag-and-drop style website into a box-model style website. Now it’s not just BAM and there it is, it takes some work to get it set correctly and there isn’t a 100% foolproof way to get it work. So you will have to adjust the slider in the actions palette to find the right amount for the action to work right. There will be instances where you have to apply the “No Relative Page Layout” action to items because again the action isn’t 100% in all instances. (Not SP fault, just with so many different designs…etc.)

The Relative Page Layout action is built for people who don’t know how to build an authentic box model style site and is useful as a learning tool until you can get there.

Thank you Dan.

Yes I did watch the video. I still didn’t fully understand once I’d finished watching it, so I thought I’d clarify it with someone on this forum.

I haven’t purchased the Upgrade copy yet.

Thank you for shedding a little more light on the matter. I’m certainly much better at things since I started but there are always new things to learn and improve on.

Thank you again for taking the time to answer my question.

If you build a site using tables (CSS button NOT pressed) and you draw out boxes (outline in blue) your site will flow with no overlaps if a user increases the text size of your site.

If you build a site using a CSS layout (CSS button IS pressed) and you draw out boxes (outline in green) the items on the page will overlap each other if a user increases the text size.

If you use the RPL action on this type of page (or site-wide) it will behave as a table or “box model”, meaning the items will all flow and push each other down the page.

One thing to look out for is try not to overlap items. Meaning, don;t have part of a box overlap part of another.

As Dan said, this can all be avoided by using the inline, or box model method, but that does take some getting used to.

Hope that helps.

Thank you Bob.

Your comments and Dan’s have certainly shed a lot of light on things.

With more practice and confidence, I might get that inline, box model thing happening, when I buy the upgrade.

Many thanks.
