The first line that says " Better Bibs provides bibs for many needs and preferences, including children’s and adult’s feeding bibs, drooling bibs for special needs, and baby bibs. These bibs are made with style and absorbency in mind" and it is uploaded

In your FW doc with that text selected (noting that you were told in an earlier reply that h1 shouldn’t be applied to a para) - does it show with an h1 tag in the style inspoector.

And what version of Fw are you using?

Oh I thought it should be. I am confused on where it should be placed then and no it doesn’t, and I am using FW 6

I don’t have the setup like the one he showed me. I have “better bibs” as the title and then the next text is a paragraph

h1 should be applied to a short phrase before a descriptive para.

So it would be a short phrase like ‘Better Bibs provides Better Bibs’

So in order to have the H1 tag, i would have to redo the setup of the page, pretty much.

SEO is not just about adding some h1 tags it is about creating a structured page with properly applied tags

Ok, so now, for my new site: www.hgrantdesigns.com/Newsite, the title tag could be" H Grant Designs, LLC" and then i would type my paragraph " H Grant Designs, LLC is all about making your company seen, blah blah, blah" Then I would put #H Grant Designs, LLC" right before the first paragraph, right?

I tried it and looked in page source and got this :

H Grant Designs,LLC focuses on your company being seen

is this what it supposed to look like? My title is in three wrapper

This has been a useful discussion. A lot more here than in the FW manual I have.

I have adjusted my page heads and meta tags as (I think) I have been instructed above so that page titles in the inspector match page titles on the page, and page meta-tag descriptions match the first 150 characters or so of paragraph copy immediately below the page head.

Here are some wrinkles I could use guidance on:

1
The top of my header hierarchy is the site’s name and I’ve styled this with an h1 tag: sounds like this is wrong wrong wrong

2
The next level of my header hierarchy are my four topic areas that each have several pages, the headers for which I’ve given h2 tags. This is the level at which I’d love search engines to list as components of the site with descriptions. Is it possible to structure page titles and descriptions to achieve this goal?

A complicating aspect to achieving this for all four topic types is three of the sections were done in Freeway, and the 4th (the blog) in Blogger, and I don’t think I have control of the page level h tags or page meta tags in Blogger.

3
As you might guess, my page headers within each of the sections are h3 headers, and each occurs at the top of the pages HTML5 item type “section” . Above instructions say these should be h1s. Sounds like higher level headings shouldn’t use h tags.

4
There has been an insistence in the posts above that the page header be a short phrase rather than just a few words (e.g. Better Bibs provides Better Bibs", not just “Better Bibs”). This strikes me as a headline copy writing decision. How is it connected to correct HTML tagging best practices?

@Howard: I don’t have the setup like the one he showed me. I have “better bibs” as the title and then the next text is a paragraph

@DeltaDave: h1 should be applied to a short phrase before a descriptive para. So it would be a short phrase like ‘Better Bibs provides Better Bibs’

5
When styling h tags in FW, I know FW will accept style names like “h1.PageTitle” but is it good practice to use them, or should I stick to plain old “h2”?

Many thanks in advance for straightening me out on these items. Or for simply suggesting a URL where I can find answers to these questions.

the page header be a short phrase rather than just a few words

No that wasn’t what was said - if you read back it was said that an h1 should be applied to a short phrase rather than a paragraph (a short phrase can consist of a few words)

It was also stated that the paragraph that immediately follows the h1 is an important aspect to consider ie the para should emphasise/expand on the h1

the top of my header hierarchy is the site’s name and I’ve styled this with an h1 tag: sounds like this is wrong wrong wrong

No - this isn’t wrong but you could expand on it to make it more meaningful.

With the addition of HTML5 it is now recognised that each Section on your page can contain its own h1 and of course the subsequent para to emphasise it.

So you may have an h1 at the top of the page followed by the intro para. Then your 4 sections that each contain an h1 and para(s)

I don’t think I have control of the page level h tags or page meta tags in Blogger.

If you used FW to create your Blogger template you do but I suspect that the standard Blogger template is probably quite well set up
