[Pro] Safari 4 beta

I’ve installed Safari 4 beta and so far it’s turned out to be everything it claims to be, including passing the Acid 3 compliancy test (http://acid3.acidtests.org/) - the first browser I’ve ever encountered to do so. However, unless I’m mistaken, Freeway uses the Safari engine to render Previews and it’s not working 100% with Safari 4. I realise that this is a problem of my own making as I originally thought that Safari 4 would install as a standalone but it over-wrote Safari 3, instead.
Before I move Safari 4 to another location and clean re-install version 3, is Softpress updating Freeway to use the new rendering engine as and when Safari 4 is finalised?

You’re going to have to choose one over the other, you can’t install
both at the same time. Much of Safari lives under the water line, in
the WebKit frameworks. Those frameworks are what Freeway uses to build
its preview. But you can’t have more than one version of the
frameworks installed. That’s why the Safari 4 preview comes with an
uninstaller, which re-loads the original framework and removes the new
stuff. It’s not as simple as dragging Safari 4 to a different folder.
Sadly.

Walter

PS: I don’t speak for Softpress, but I imagine that the answer to your
questions is “definitely”. Unless they plan to install their own
private copy of the WebKit framework, they do have to play along with
whatever curve-balls Apple throw.

Thanks Walter. You confirmed my suspicions about WebKit.
Ho, hum! I’ve uninstalled Safari 4 (which I was quite enjoying) and restored 3.2.1 but I can now work in Freeway properly and that, at the end of the day, is what’s really important.
