[Pro] ScriptyFader

Hi, I really like this action but in IE8 its not behaving as it should? All other browsers show the text fading in and out on IE8 it just appears then disappears, no fading??

Any idea?

I just had an amusing tour through the source code of Prototype, and
found that the trick I’m using (morph to control opacity) won’t
actually work in IE because it doesn’t talk to the part of Prototype
that works around IE’s lack of support for opacity in CSS. IE, for
some strange reason, only allows opacity-style effects through its
proprietary Alpha Filter feature.

I don’t believe it can be animated, either.

The reason I am using morph over opacity here rather than fade is
because Effect.Fade from Scriptaculous actually removes the element
from the page when it’s done, rather than just changing its
visibility, and when you remove an element from an inline-construction
page, everything else closes up to fill in the gap. Nature, and it
seems W3C, abhors a vacuum.

I’ll have to see if there’s another way I can hold the page in place
while the effect is running.

It’s working in standard browsers, and degrades gracefully in non-
standard browsers. If you don’t see the fade, that doesn’t mean that
the images don’t change.

I’m not working on it today, and the nice thing about this approach
(progressive enhancement) is that when your client notices the
graceful fade at some point in the near future, they’ll call you up
and say thanks for the upgrade!

Hi - Yes the text does change, but very abruptly as in no fade at all.

Thanks!

Hi Justin

Not being critical - but I do find the white text on the light grey background a little difficult to read.
