[Pro] Separate Folders, Seaparate Resources?

We’ve been working on a site (sort of big) that we’ve decided to split up into folders inside of Freeway.

Unbeknown to us, FW has made separate Resource folders for all the separate folders of the site. Is this normal, or did we miss a setting somewhere.

Although, that seems like a good idea, I think it makes things more confusing.

Yes, under ‘Document Setup>Output’ there’s a pull down menu. The
default is ‘Separate Resource Folders’.

Aw, crap!

Well, at least I know now.

Thanks.

However, you do not have direct control over which Resources folder
Freeway will use for each file. Often times, you’ll re-use images
throughout your site. It’s quite possible for an image used on an HTML
file in one folder to be linked from the Resources folder in another
folder entirely.

The only way to control this behavior completely is to have multiple
Freeway files–one per folder–and that way you don’t end up with
images getting overwritten by another document and confusing things
hopelessly.

I’m not sure how multiple Freeway files works. I thought you had one per site. How would you “connect” them all? Wouldn’t that be confusing?

Right now, we have multiple Resource folders because we didn’t know any better. But, I’m thinking just having one would be best, no?

You can still switch to one Resources folder for all, just change the
setting in the Document Setup dialog and republish.

Hope this helps.

As Joe said, you can change this any time you like.

But stop and think: does it matter which setting you use? One of the
benefits of using Freeway is that you can ‘let go’ of worrying about
that kind of detail - let the app take care of the housekeeping while
you get on with designing your site.

Well, the main reason I even brought the topic up was because we were using custom images for our PayPal buttons, which leaves you in the catch-22 situation of having the images uploaded before your site is…sort of.

So, we were looking for the images to upload them separately and we looked in the “Resource” folder and they weren’t there. Even after we Published and all.

That’s when we discovered there was more than one Resource folder.
