[Pro] Sequence Timer and Target Show/Hide layer

Hi Colin

Should you or anyone else have an interest in this Softpress reported back, disappointingly, as follows

"Unless I build a test page with a sample fading slideshow and target
show/hide layers set with different transition times (which is very
difficult to justify when, as is the case at the moment, the support
customer list is very busy), it's very difficult for me to give you a
definitive answer - and even then, if there is a problem, all I can do
is confirm or not. However, if you have set everything up in the way
they should be and you find that it doesn't work, then this suggests
that there is indeed an issue with using two different fading times on
the same page (though I have never heard of anyone wanting to do this
before).

The fading effects are controlled by the Scriptaculous JavaScript
library and it might well be that this is a limitation of what can be
done when using more than one transition time on the same page.

If there is an issue, it is unlikely that this will be fixed anytime
soon (if ever, when this is the first time the issue has been raised),
so you will need to use an iFrame for the fading slideshow - as this
will definitely work.

I'll put in a request for the developers to look into the possibilities
of rewriting the Action to run with different transition times - and
they will look at it in due course"

It is not that I want varying fades within a single slide show but when a second instance of the action is used (in my case to enable the revealing/hiding a layer on mouse click) I would like to be able to choose the fade duration and not have it taking its instructions from the first instance of this action.

Re “this is the first time this issue has been raised” and so gets low priority if any other FW talkers would like to say "me too " then please go ahead - the squeaky wheel gets the oil.

Regards Richard

I’ve just logged this as a bug.

Try using NewsCycle instead, I just posted lengthy instructions to use it to make a fading slideshow in the ActionsDev list.

Good and good Joe and Walt. Thanks.

Richard, I can understand the Softpress reply as I’ve never come across the need before, either, but I agree with you that there should be a way to adjust timing of an Action loaded by another Action. Unfortunately, Freeway has been so good to me that I’ve never really had the need to get into code and with so may Actions ‘just working’ the odd hiccup usually comes as a surprise (probably when I don’t need one, of course!).

So I don’t think I can add any oil to this squeaky wheel, but look forward to a future answer, via the likes of ever helpful Walt & Joe.

Colin.

Well it works for the fading slide show but the iFrame seems to have a detrimental effect on the Target Show/Hide Layer in that it will not toggle on and off ( and sometimes just appears without asking)
See http://www.richard-lowther.com/amanda/ If I remove the iFrame it works as wanted. Put it back and hop! its all jittery again

A quick test with Walter’s solution works fine http://www.richard-lowther.com/amanda/newscycle.html# So that’s what I will do and thanks Walter
