Sorry - but has Freeway changed much over the last year ? I don’t recall having these problems last time I used it and my dementia hasn’t got that bad … this is a screen grab of the page in Fway above and in browser below, totally different. Please understand this is not a moan but I need to find a basic ‘how to’ guide I think … Roger
Thanks Dave, as I said I’m trying to build this site cleanly so thought that I’d ‘done it right’ - how wrong can one be … here it is for your intelligent and knowledgable scrutiny:
If you take the letter-spacing adjustment off your H1 it works fine.
However I have to ask what your overall aim is with this site?
Are you designing for a particular viewing platform as your max-width of 800px is too small for desktop users.
I see you are still on FW6 but that doesn’t mean you can’t make your layout flexible for all devices.
I assume that this is a brand new site for this client and as such there are no web stats telling you what sort of visitors he is getting ie mobile/desktop breakdown.
So I would suggest that you (and your client) decide whether or not this site should be mobile friendly (Responsive) bearing in mind that this site is about generating business for your client. I am sure you have read the latest from Google about penalising sites that are not mobile friendly?
Once you have made that decision you can then structure the site accordingly but at this early stage I would suggest that adjusting letter spacing is far lower in the priority list than maybe choosing a font that better gives you the look you want without fiddling with it.
But before that is the decision about layout construction.

Try setting those header lines of text all in one HTML box, just applying different styles to each line.
Also note that Header tag content is always automatically emboldened in the browser. To prevent this from happening you need to add a bit to the H1 tag style (and the other H styles) that positively overrides this, not just un-hilight the ‘B’ style button. Although you should do this as well.
Open the Edit Styles dialog (choose Edit > Styles), select the H1 style, and click the ‘Extended’ button. In this new dialog, click New, and put “font-weight” in the Name field and “normal” in the Value field. Without those quotes, of course. This tells the browser to render text with this tag at the normal typeface weight rather than bold. Don’t forget to un-hilight that ‘B’ style button too.
Isn’t this more about prioritising mobile-friendly sites in searches from mobile devices?
You and I know this but the way Google is putting it across makes it seem that non-mobile friendly sites are evil and should be punished!
And so the popular misconception follows.
So it really means that non-mobile friendly sites will be ranked lower than mobile friendly sites when searched on mobile devices - however it is a good scare tactic to convince the client to cough up more money to make a Responsive site.
And as more and more searches are carried out from mobile devices it does make some sense.

Ahahaa – yes, that’s also true. But we should try not to scare fellow web designers as well.
Specifically: non-mobile friendly sites will be ranked lower than mobile friendly sites in searches made on mobile devices. Which makes sense and yes, shouldn’t be dismissed.
Thanks as ever chaps … OK I’m going to start again with the site … a couple of questions (as always) when I create one html box do I make it H1 and then adjust each of the different lines (size and weight and italicising) as I think I’ve done but the page in Fway looks like this:
… and finally how do I make it “mobile friendly” ?
Do yourself a favour and get FW7 - it will make your life so much easier when it comes to Responsive sites - not saying it can’t be done in 6! But the investment will be paid off on this job by the amount of time you will save.

…thanks Keith but I now don’t seem to be able to get the font ‘size’ required … has ‘font-weight’ overridden the ‘size’ as well ?
Sorry - I understand that but when I apply the font-weight value in the ‘extended’ area the 44pt H1 text reverts to something like 16pt and when I try and 'edit style/H1 and increase the font size it doesn’t ‘stick’ the text remains at 16pt …
Apologies Dave … after your patient efforts when I tried to recreate the problem to upload it it worked … I do not understand but thanks again for you patience. Now the exhibeo dilemma …
