I noticed on a Showcase Gallery with the “watermark action” applied, that if an image thumbnail is right clicked and “Download linked file” is selected, that the image is downloaded without the watermark!
I discovered this when someone downloaded a lot of images off my site and put them on their Facebook page.
I’m not sure if it still happens with the latest version, but worth checking your galleries if you are concerned about copyright etc.
I put the watermark on my images now, before making the galleries.
Hi Paul,
The Showcase Extras Action applies the image as an overlay to the original photo and (as you have found) doesn’t burn itself into the original image. If you are concerned about image protection using watermarks I would suggest using either the standard Watermark Action or pre-processing the images before importing them into Showcase.
Regards,
Tim.

Paul,
My site host MacHighway, has a feature that is called ‘Leech Protection’, though my understanding is that this is for preventing other sites from using graphics on your server/page for their display (thus stealing your bandwidth). I don’t know, but perhaps this kind of thing would prevent download of original images also. It is part of a cPanel Dashboard that may be very common.
I would like to know - any comments from you experts?
Thanks
Frank
