[Pro] Showcase very slow to open

Anyone else have trouble with Showcase opening up very slowly if at all? Are there any fixes. I running the latest version of both freeway and showcase.

No - not really although (I just checked) my single images for the slides I did in one particular page are heavy duty, it seems that the slides are working as a charm.

So question one:

Any link to provide?

question two:

What’s your internet-connection (speed)?

The slideshows I did are on:

2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th entry if it is of interest.

Do they work for you?

Cheers

The problem isn’t with a site it’s with the application. When I launch showcase the inspector opens then I get the spinning beach ball of death for 3 or 4 minutes. The main screen finally opens after this time frame. I ran disk permissions and restarted the computer. It still lags.

so sorry for misunderstanding you - but a few more details could make things clearer (Version, OS …) however nobody knows what you are doing out there on your machines.

Cheers

Sorry as well, I’m using mac os 10.6-8 and the new Freeway/Showcase 5.6.3 combo. However this was happening with the older versions as well. It started about two weeks ago. Must be Mac related, just not sure how or where to look.
This is the site http://segerstrombasketball.com/
Thanks

I timed it today. It took 4 minutes to open. The whole time the hard drive was processing. If I had to guess- it was looking at all the photo files on my system. Once opened it functions just fine. Any ideas?

Mac specific problem would be my guess.

Hi,

With Showcase 1.1 we introduced the user’s Pictures folder to the photo browser, all of which (iPhoto, Aperture and Pictures) are currently processed at the point of creating a new Showcase document. In the case of the Pictures folder, this means navigating through the folders and creating lists of all the images.

Do you see the same issue if you create a second new document after you have opened Showcase?

I’d be interested to know what sort of processor your machine has and roughly how many folders and images you have in your Pictures folder, four minutes seems an incredibly long time though. You can find out the processor type and speed in the Apple menu and “About This Mac”.

Do you additionally have all these photos in iPhoto and/or Aperture?

Hello Sim,
Thank for responding. After showcase opens I have no problem creating several projects. It functions just fine.

All of my photos are in aperture version 3.2.2 I have 92800 photos with 60 facebook folders and around 200 projects.
The mac is running 10.6.8 with 2.8 GHz intel Core 5 Processor and 8 gb memory.

There is an old iPhoto file that I don’t use. Just haven’t thrown it away.
Thanks
Mark

Hi Mark,

Just to be sure, when you say “creating several projects”, do you mean new Showcase documents? As in File>New or cmd+n.

Because of the way Showcase reads in the external libraries, I would expect that any delay you see as a result of the size of your Aperture library will be seen every time you create a new document rather than just when the application launches.

I think that the delay you are seeing is when Showcase is checking the images to make sure that they are of types that Showcase supports and are removed (from the list Showcase keeps) if they are not supported. This was introduced into Showcase 1.1 which was released just before Christmas.

As in clicking the plus + sign in the lower left corner.
The slowdown started prior to 1.1
I think I will remove some of the photo files and see if that helps.
