[Pro] Single or multiple istes and SEO?

I am a photographer, there are several different categorise of work I am able to achieve. I am unsure as to what would be the best way to market myself online with websites and SEO? The three options I am considering are 1. One main site with a seperate section for each category. 2. A seperate standalone site for each section with its own domain. 3. Both 1 & 2, a single site with all and seperate standalone versions of each section. My concerns are based around gaining the best SEO and google rankings. Will it hurt to do seperate sites and link them all. Also will one site for all not hinder each individual section?

More importantly what will be the best for your prospective clients. Do they want a photographer that is a jack of all trades or will they prefer to work with a specialist in a certain field of photography.

Once you figured that out you can plot the course of action.

I’m thinking that it’s best to firstly design the site with your site users/clients in mind and then add the SEO stuff to support it. Whether it’s one site or multiple sites.

I would think about this from a marketing standpoint. Do you have a brand, and is it important? That would argue for having one site with multiple sections.

Or, do you need to market to sharply divided audiences, i.e. those that have absolutely no common ground, like weddings and commercial table-top photos? That would argue for creating two different brands, and marketing them separately.

No matter which one you choose to do, the SEO is (or should be) icing on top of a strong brand identity and a site that honestly reflects that brand. No amount of snake oil will improve on a weak message.
