[Pro] Site keeps re-publishing itself before uploading.

Hi All

I’ve got this problem. Every time I go to up-load this site to the server it re-publishes itself. Nothing has been added or changed, the FTP setting haven’t changed but every time I go to upload the site, it will re-publish itself.

Any ideas please.

Regards

Lee

Have you checked your Mac’s clock recently? Are your source files (the ones you use in the layout, like pictures or movies) stored on a file server, rather than on your Mac? Does any other application update or overwrite those files? Have you restored anything from TimeMachine or another backup lately?

Freeway maintains an Alias-like link to the original files you use in your document, and if they change at all, the page(s) upon which they appear will be marked as “dirty” and require uploading.

Other things which can taint all pages in your site include changing colors, fonts, or anything to do with a Master Page, particularly if you use external stylesheets in your publishing preferences.

When you upload your site, does the process complete entirely? There’s a file that gets written after each update of your server, and it stores the timestamps of all the files that Freeway has added to your server. When you initiate an upload subsequently, that file is compared with the current state on the server as reported by the server. If they don’t match within a certain number of seconds, the server is deemed to be stale and the page and all associated resources are uploaded again. It is extremely rare for a server’s clock to be off, but I suppose it can happen.

Hi Walter

Thanks for your reply. All my files are on my Mac. No other applications can overwrite my files, that I know of. I have not restored anything from my backup.

I have not changed anything apart up-loading 4 jpeg images today but I’ve had the problen since Friday/Saturday when I first started trying to get the images onto the site. I started to get ‘Time Out’ messages. Eventually I got the images onto the server.

When I have been trying to upload the site, the upload would stall at a file and then I got a ‘Time Out’ message, so I don’t know if the problems are connected.

I have just been able to upload the site without any problems but it had to republish itself first.

Does this make any sense?

Yes. The _siteinfo file probably didn’t get updated when your upload failed to complete, so Freeway is being cautious about uploading everything again. It can’t tell what’s new, so it assumes everything is just to be safe.

OK, let me put it like this. I can make a change on a page and then go to ‘publish’ Instead of just that one page getting published, the whole site get’s published.

That makes better sense.

I do have the same issue. None of the points Walt mentioned are applicable in my situation. I do use the caxton action for my webfont. My guess it is because of that one…
