[Pro] Slow launch speed?

Is it just me or is Freeway Pro really slow launching in Mac OS X 10.7? Seems to bounce in the dock at least 20 times or so before it finally opens. Other apps seem to only bounce once or twice before they are ready to go.

I’ve noticed a bit of that myself. Freeway launches in about ten bounces for me; I’m not sure if that’s slower than it used to be, but TextEdit, of all things, sometimes takes around twenty when it used to take about one or two. But sometimes it launches instantly. Yojimbo launches straight away, PixelMator in about two bounces.

How many fonts to you each have active? I suspect that’s what’s going
on here, as both of these applications need to scan the entire list to
cache them for their Font menus.

Hi Walter; exactly as many as I had before I upgraded to Lion! Quite a few, admittedly, but Lion is the only thing that’s changed. I’ll try deactivating a few and see if it makes a difference.

298 here according to Font Book. Apart from whatever Lion added (such as Apple Color Emoji, etc.) it is the same fonts I had in Snow Leopard and I seem to remember Freeway opening there with just a few bounces in the dock… not 20 or more. But when I get a chance I’ll try out deactivating some and see what happens.

I discovered that due to installing Swift Publisher, I had a whole raft of fonts installed that came with it, all activated. I’ve since deactivated them all, along with dozens of others, making a total of hundreds of fonts deactivated.
The problem (if it can be called that; it doesn’t seem to do any harm) is the same. TextEdit takes many bounces to launch, Freeway similar, although a bit of an improvement there; only about eight bounces with Freeway. TextEdit is the one that surprises me though; it’s always launched almost immediately, even with all the fonts I’ve just disabled active. I can’t say it bothers me hugely, the machine seems to be working smooth and fast, it’s just odd.

Paul, not sure what is up with TextEdit. I haven’t had a chance to look into anything with the fonts yet… but TextEdit launches here in about a bounce. Haven’t seen any instance of it taking as long as Freeway.
