[Pro] smple TABLE question

Hi,

Does anyone who uses tables know…

Is there a way so that when I type HTML text in the cell of the table, the column will not expand as I type in it, but will lock it’s column width and wrap to next line?

The problem is, as I am typing in the cell, when it gets to the end of the cell, it is making the column wider and thus the entire table wider.

Thanks much,

Barry

Forget FW tables. Use Google docs embedded.

Barry,
I have not experienced this…

When I add text to a table cell it expands vertically (wraps to next line). I find there are problems with tables expanding horizontally (problem since as far back as I can remember and reported several times) only when manually adjusting the width, this problem would be when you use the cursor to drag and set the width, at times the table jumps wider than wanted and can take several attempts to get the correct width… but on adding text this has not been a problem for me.

BTW, I am on FW 5.5 Pro not 6.

Hi Mike,

I am on 5.5 too.

I tried inserting a fresh new simple 3 x 3 table to test again.

I double clicked in a cell.

Started typing away and when it gets to the end of the cell the column keeps moving to the right and expanding. No Natural wrap.

Then when I delete the extra text it is not like the column goes back, it STAYS the extra width from the extra text. The entire table has gone to the right!

thanks for trying here…

Barry and Mike, I have never seen this behavior. Just tried it again in case the “mad cow” was acting up. Are you trying to type a word that is longer than the cell width, by any chance?

Hey Walt…

i just figured something out.

It seems that if your typing has NO spaces from left of cell to right, it pushes the column wider, but if you have even one space between words, etc then it wraps. I guess that makes sense and i would never have one continous text across.

I discovered it because I had a word that was wider than column and it pushed it but now I have learned I have to make that one column wider and it will not be a problem.

THanks!! you solved it by helping me solve it!
