Well I switched over to MySQL 5 because I read it offers a rather significant performance boost when it comes to reading db’s. I noticed on my EE install that the timer in the footer was somewhat faster as far as how long it took to read the settings and how many tables were accessed and what not. So, I’ve been happy with the upgrade but was a bit leary in the beginning as I had to write a htaccess file that forced my install to run PHP4. So with that adjusted, I just wanted to make sure that a clean install wouldn’t have been better and if so how would one import an existing DB and Joe brings up a great point about figuring that the MySQL importing process should have said something if the db wasn’t compatible.
Hopefully Joe can get his situation fixed as I am looking forward to reading this EE 2.0 Guide Book I got and adapting my new site to it.
Hi all.
I stop trying here, it just takes too much time. No, it still does not work on the server of my ISP not even with a recent download of the trial. And in my local setup with XAMMP I get an error saying (with a LOT of question marks before)
????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
Fatal error: Class 'Installer_Config' not found in /Users/myname/Sites/system/core/Common.php on line 159
I’m not good at trying Beta software I guess. Remember that although I can follow instructions I am just an avarage user with almost no knowledge of server-software. Not my cup of tea. I’ll stick with 1.6.8 for a year or so, then I’ll see. Sorry.
Just to inform you here: I got some advise from EE. It appears that the latest build of XAMMP (with PHP 5.3.0) does not support Zend Optimiser. They advise me to install XAMPP 1.6.8 in stead. Ah well, I’ll give it a try.
I folded as well so I’m just as guilty, but that doesn’t mean it makes it any easier or that we like it. We just choose to be adventurous, while others would call it gutsy.
I’m in.
XAMMP 1.6.8 seemed to me a Windows/Linux version.
So, I looked for MAMP. The latest build of MAMP contained PHP 5.2.11 and Zend Optimizer v3.3.9
Installation of EE 2.0 Trial worked like a charm.
Now it’s playtime. Got to go now, but I hope to be able to work on this soon.
I decided to update the beta trial install to fix my CP problems. I went from it running but useless to back where I started with 500 Internal Server Error. Then I deleted all the files and the database to start from scratch. Guess what? 500 Internal Server Error.
There is little I hate more than going around and around with something like this. My Zend Optimizer version is recent enough, so that’s not it. I’ve gone thru the install instructions and the permissions so that’s not it. What else could it be? Where is that “bang head on concrete wall” smiley?
Glad you’r on the road again, Joe. Do you think your experiences are related to the server settings from Have host ? You did not have simulair trouble before with EE, did you? If so, that means that this particulair build of EE could cause some irritating problems on different servers depending on settings. Or do I see this wrong?
It seems that the permissions got messed up when I did the upgrade the other day and still were when I did the new install. If I had checked the error logs I would have figured it out sooner.
I hope that I explaned everything well here. This is how I have set up a Freeway site in the 2.0 trial of Expression Engine. http://www.atelier.box.nl/eetrial/
