[Pro] Sorting showcase galleries

How can you sort galleries automatically? Showcase seems to import the images in a somewhat random order which I have not yet fathomed.

I sort mine in a Photo Album in iPhoto, then click on iPhoto in Showcase, select all and move them to the left pane. They are in the exact same order as the iPhoto album on my screen.

Influence is very subtle at times, and also very powerful and overarching. It depends on what you are doing.

Thanks. I’ve not been using iPhoto (I don’t like it at all) but perhaps I’ll have to start doing that.

You do know that you can rearrange them manually simply by dragging them around in Showcase?

Yes thanks, I was aware of manual rearranging but that’s pretty labour intensive - and should be a bit unnecessary as my preferred sort order is simply capture time. I just tried Dianna’s suggestion and it works fine, so I’ll just have to add iPhoto to the mix when I need to. Personally I’d prefer to have this functionality in Showcase or Freeway, but as far as I know that is not the case.

That’s a drag; I dislike iPhoto quite a lot, although I use Aperture, which is notice is one of the choices in Showcase.

I too dislike iPhoto, especially it’s propensity for making a gazillion hidden copies of everything. Still, with the few photos I will end up putting into it, it will not matter much. I use Lightroom myself, and unfortunately Showcase doesn’t talk to Lightroom. (I just searched on “Lightroom” in Actions Forge but I came up empty.)

Cheers

Ian

BTW Paul, I looked at your Stoneybeck Cottage link. Nice. It’s a bit far away for me though - we live in Vancouver, BC.

Yes, I agree. Although to be fair, you can turn that behaviour off.

Ah shame, I could have done with a customer! Still, glad you like it.

I didn’t realize that, and now I’ve looked, I’m uncertain how, unless you mean to turn off the “copy import to iPhoto library” preference?

That’s the one. Like Aperture, iPhoto will allow you to either reference the photos where they are, or copy them (duplicate) to its library.

So, I appreciate all this information I did not know before. I usually just unload my camera to iPhoto, so wouldn’t think there are duplicates of my camera shots. Wondering tho about edits. I know you can revert back to original, so I suspect any editing done creates a new copy somewhere. I do not want any extra photos stored since I have over 12,000 so far (I’m a LONG time mac user). Thanks for any info anyone might know about this.

Yes, there are extra copies there, and to some degree that is a good thing. However, we are getting somewhat off topic here, so I’ll give you a more detailed answer in “off topic”
