I have just built a web site for my side-line/part-time business which is design and building renovation using Freeway Pro 5.5. The simple site comprises of 5 main pages linked to to 5 basic separate Showcase Galleries which are displayed via Spawned iPad - friendly windows (800 x 600 pixels) to open centred over any given main page of the site. In otherwords the standard default.
The spawned windows are triggered by clicking various images spread across the 5 main pages.
The site works fine on my 2 macs and I’ve sent copies to my regular professional web builder and all works well on his Windows based kit also and in various browsers.
Once uploaded to a server however things start to fall apart. The main pages display as intended and the links to the galleries work fine, but the the galleries no longer open in an iPad friendly spawned window format, but instead use a standard new window with the gallery positioned top left. Once in the gallery however, full functionality is restored. i.e. if you click any image the enlarged version displays centrally, with an 80% opaque black surround as intended, albeit a little oddly, i.e. centred over ranged.
The problem is that what was once a fairly visually succinct and elegant solution has become clunky i.e. 1) you loose the visual identity of the main site once in the gallery. 2) the immediacy of the X to close icon is gone and you become reliant on the new window tabs. 3) the 800 x 600 pixel gallery looks weak positioned top left rather than centred over a knock back of the parent page. In other words it’s no longer user friendly or much uses to anyone browsing quickly.
Obviously I can change the main gallery page by pushing the image area into the centre. I could even fake-up a knock back main page to sit behind it so that the original intended affect is preserved. However that’s far from satisfactory and not what I would have elected to do. More importantly it still leaves the close option unresolved.
This is my first crack at Freeway Pro and it’s not a program that my regular web guy uses. We suspect however that we might be able to get to the bottom of this i.e. and that it could be a character that is case sensitive etc - but it’s going to take forever to hunt it down, and after all that’s still just a hunch. I’m currently working off site so have no immediate access to my original files or kit but if I recall I also left the gallery pages so that they would not be indexed within any search to make updates easier and as they contain little useful text content other than captions.
Any ideas? thanks Mike
