[Pro] Stretching headers and footers across the full screen width

Hope someone can help, I am trying to get a header and footer on a new website I’m creating to stretch across the full width of a screen. I tried this instruction from FW Making an Item Stretch the Width of the Page - Freeway - Softpress Talk but it’s just not working for me.

Thanks.

Hi Liz,

I’m far off recommending any paid stuff, but with small budget (starting at 0,79€ one day), all this is available quick and (hopefully) well structured in my screencast-series “The FreewayPro BoxModel Version6”. The trailer about the “to be expected” can be found at:

Hi Thomas

Thanks for the link, I did watch the preview, but how easy is this to set up for someone who is just not into coding at all - that’s the reason I use FW. I’ve also got Adobe’s Muse but because I can’t allow viewers to the site to change the background colours, I can’t use Muse for the website I’m busy with right now.

regards
Elizabeth

Once understood the basics:

Easy - we’re just using Freeway without any line of extra-code. It’s simply using (and understanding) this great opportunity, Freeway offers.

I’m not only show the process of the how, I mostly try to explain the why (as hard as a can :-).

In a nutshell, you set the header and footer to 100% width - dont set align!

Then your actual “page content” you set to 960px or whatever and centre
align it

That’s it.

tried that, it didn’t make any difference, which is why I thought I’d ask here.

I am trying to get a header and footer on a new website I’m creating to stretch across the full width of a screen.

Can you post a link to your failed example and we might be able to tell you where you are going wrong.

As someone who is quite new to version 6 I feel a bit left in the dark about the different way it works compared to version 5. Inline box model is one such example - you can get a detailed tutorial on how to do it in version 5 but it is so different in 6. But details for version 6 seem a bit patchy, there doesn’t appear to be a tutorial from Softpress on how to do it. Is the “What’s New in Freeway 6” guide all there is?
Where am I best going?
Thanks

Hi David

It’s not online yet - in the mid stages of creation.

One of my secrets to enjoyable traveling is to sometimes just get myself
good and lost. Some of the most amazing adventures I’ve ever had were done
this way.

As a graphic professional, I devote some time to sitting down with my tools
and just exploring them. Sometimes it is very helpful to just make myself
discover what can be done, or to find a way to do something. Like with
traveling, I can always pull out the map if I have to.

By the time they release the “official” version of How It’s Done, you may
have found ten “unofficial” ways of doing it. Or likely have learned a
whole host of other things unrelated.

So make time, have fun, see what you discover. If nothing else, there will
be videos to look forward to, and much to learn from people who have been
in much the same spot as you

Ernie, I have just bought and downloaded the upgrade to 6 this morning, so I look forward to seeing the differences and hopefully it being even better than 5.5. I have been reluctant to do so until now after reading all the problems that so many people had when it first came out. I have lots of other software (to get lost in learning and developing) with as well , not only do I create websites, I publish interactive ebooks and books for authors, so my time is pretty full what with Adobe CS6, Freeway and book publishing software, which also means I watch many training and how-to videos. One thing for sure, I love what I do, so this is all a great pleasure and an enjoyable way of life for me.

Just as I help and guide authors (education and learning difficulties mostly and people who want to reach the school sector) I also need help when something won’t work - like getting my header and footer to stretch across the page! I appreciate the help that this community offers, which is one of the reasons I stay with FW.

Thanks for your advice.

Ern, thanks for the advice. I think I do need to change my attitude a bit and think more along the lines of it being an adventure. After all, unlike a printed brochure, it is very easy to correct a website after it has been published. Off now to go get lost for a bit - where was that map!
