[Pro] Styles for short text and long text web yep

Greetings.

I am trying to understand styles and how to apply them to the short and long text items in web yep.

I do not understand the differences between the styles where you give it a tag name (with a period in front) and just a name in the other box.

And, what governs when and how those are applied in Freeway. In some short text items, I can choose the styles and the h1 h2 em and strong style choices are available, while in others the choices do not even come up.

Is there a read somewhere on how to understand how these are applied and utilized?

Need some help.

Create custom styles that only affect the short or long text objects directly. Whatever the name of the WeYep text objects are must be the tag name also.

In the Styles Editor:

  1. Create a new style and in the tag field type, for examle, #ShortText (but use whatever the name you have given the WebYep object). Make sure it matches exactly including the case.
  2. Delete whatever FW puts in the Name field and tab out.
  3. Set all you styling requirements then click OK to finish.

This method will target only the WebYep object named ShortText.

Chuck,

Thanks.

What if I want to give the client an option for styling of his text block from the browser ?? Is there not a way to set up some styles and allow the client to choose?

Also, what is the significance of the # Some of the styles have a . in front of them and some have nothing.

Also, when I create some of the web yep items, I can select the usual h1 h2 h2 body strong tags. But some of the boxes do not allow me to chose those options.

Thanks for the help.

The only way to do that is with a Rich Text object. That would require you to have a supported editor such as “TinyMCE”, “FCKeditor” or “CKEditor” installed in the “opt” directory inside the WebYep system folder.

A # symbol is used to indicate a selector tag, and the . is used to indicate a class. In FW whatever is in the name field is automatically prefaced by the . but this isn’t always the correct place to create a class style. Sometimes you must use the tag field and manually type in the . for it to work correctly.

Hi all. There are some good sreencasts at danjasker.com that address styling of WebYep elements and how the client can select the styles too.

Episode 3 specifically covers this area: http://www.danjasker.com/store/screencasts/details/using-the-webyep-cms-episode-three

I found it really useful.
