I’m contemplating redoing http://alesiaartglass.com/ in Freeway. (Originally in GoLive, RIP). Client wants changes to text and illustrations.
I’m not wildly ecstatic about the design. I managed to rationalize and organize client’s original Adobe Illustrator sketches somewhat, so you can imagine. Whew.
The Show/Hide function cobbled together in GoLive works rather well. Photos are not preloaded, so the basic page loads pretty quickly. I can’t now even remember exactly how I set up the effect where the “One moment please…” JPEG loads first and is replaced by the final JPEG.
GoLive had/has a dialog in which various rollovers/showhides/etc. could be strung together as a simple javascript, and applied to an item. CSActions? Anyhow, I haven’t seen such functionality in FW as the double-replace.
Actually, the more I look at this old site the more I like the gallery function. Can I have a non-preload and a replace
or perhaps a loading timer in FW?
I’m using the excellent Carousel at, e.g., http://bartwalter.com/info/bartwalterpublicart.html to good effect. But the preload makes that page just on the border of usability, and at alesiaartglass would definitely kill the page.
So, whack away at the page. Any and all suggestions welcome!
Ideally you’d probably want to use tables on this one. You could box in a box-model them and have three boxes in each row. You’d accomplish the same feat as it’s more of a matter of your comfort level.
If you’re looking to kick up the design a notch you’ll have to consider larger type for the navigation and perhaps centering the document and repeating the top black border with the cream soda colored background. You could tile that horizontally and don’t forget a footer at the bottom. It’s always my policy in that if there’s a scroll-bar there needs to be a footer.
I’m going to take a look at the Carousel link you have here and see what that’s all about. Thanks for sharing.
