[Pro] Test 'shifting down' problem

Hi,

I’m tearing my hair out trying to work out why some text is shifting down the page on my site. If you check the site link (http://connectcreative.co.uk/test.html) you’ll see that on the right, the text ‘subscribe to our newsletter’ is not level with ‘Read what our clients say about us’, even though they are level in Freeway. They are two separate HTML boxes with a background image, and custom padding of left 30px, right 0px, top & bottom 40px. The page uses the relative page layout action (and i’ve tried excluding them from it) but the problem remains. They are set to scroll under the navigation above, which they do fine. They just refuse to line up!

If it’s any help you can see a screen-grab of the Freeway page here…

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance,

Neil.

This looks like it might be related to your use of the Relative Page Layout Action. There is a 40px padding-top applied to the element that contains the subscription form. If that was removed, the two headlines would be aligned perfectly. Check to see if there are any overlapping elements in that area that might be confusing RPL. Also look at the page when you remove or disable the RPL Action and see if that fixes it. (I realize that might break other aspects of your design, I only mean for you to do this as a troubleshooting step.)

Neil, I can’t read the code (because I’m stupid) so I’m just going off what’s happened to me.

Could it be something as simple as a return or two formatted differently at the top of each box? ie: one box has the returns formatted as the red header and the other is formatted as the body copy?

Hi Walt / Trev,

Thanks for the swift reply, really appreciated.

The items do not overlap anything else, and I’ve tried removing the RPL action from the page (or applying the remove from RPL). I’ve also checked the formatting to make sure nothing had crept in as mentioned by Trev (can’t believe I didn’t even try that!). I can remove the padding but the box to the left of it (testimonials) has it too.

I really wanted to keep the 40px at the top as visually it works better with the small drop shadow (background) image to the left of it.

So, after much testing, I just gave up - I deleted the offending box and duplicated the testimonial box, replaced the copy and now its working. You can see here: http://connectcreative.co.uk/test.html

I know this is cheating and I should really of found out what was doing it, but hey ho.

Thanks for the input guys, it’s really appreciated though.

Cheers,

Neil.
