I’ve got a number of short movies that include text in it. Since this text is a graphic item, search engines won’t pick up those key words.
To get the search engines to see those words, is it a good idea to type the same text that’s in the movie, into a text
box on the same page and put it hiding behind something?

It is NEVER a good idea to hide text like this. Google (and other search engines) will think you are trying to spoof them and mark you down for behaviour like this. This is like having loads of Black text on a black background - unseen by the visitor. Bad news.
anywhere from 15 words on one page to 40 words on another.
Is there any way around this so the text that’s
in the movie is searchable by the engines and
they won’t be spoofed?
I dont know what the limit for Alt text in FW is but certainly 40 words is doable.
But I would suggest that a video is accompanied by an HTML text panel with your text in it. Appropriate related text is much more valuable for SEO than Alt text on its own.
