[Pro] The use of fonts

I find the use of fonts quite confusing. I one takes the trouble of using other fonts than already included in FW Pro 7.0.

If I try to use other fonts in the Type Inspector, I wind up iin the Font folder in my system…! I thought I could only use web fonts and TrueType…? But, if so, can I also use OTF fonts…?

Have a look; maxilla.nu

I thought I could only use web fonts and TrueType

The basic rules are

Use fonts that are installed in the majority of users systems ie web safe fonts such as Verdana, Arial, Times, Trebuchet, Georgia, etc.

If you want to use other fonts then

1 - Use them as graphic text ie images rather than real editable/copyable text.

2 - Use an Action such as the Web Fonts or Caxton actions that will upload/embed fonts so that everyone can use them.

3 - Use Google fonts to embed code to do the same job as one of the actions above.

Which way do you want to go? Is there a specific font that you want to use? Does it need to be searchable/copyable text?

I was thinking of Janson, some variations of Garamond for body text and some sans serif fonts like Futura for headlines.

To let you know how much a newbie I am, I let you know when I ask, what you mean by ”searchable”? By Google…?

If I have my texts on my domain as ”graphic text i.e. images”, that makes them NOT searchable…, maybe I got that right anyway…!

Of course I want my texts to be searchable, since I will use some of Google services, in letting my pages have contents that Google can find and as sense too.

Correct - graphic text is images and not readable by screenreaders or Google.

Of course I want my texts to be searchable,

Then use one of the Actions or a service like Google Fonts
