[Pro] Those who have upgraded from 6 to 7..

Just last night I bought the upgrade to 7pro from my current 6 Express… I have a good handle on how to get updates to my host now, since FTP never worked for me… Basically when I update in 6 express, I publish it, and then in my folder that is on my desktop I upload one file at a time to my host server. It works well for me and I can have an update done in minutes…

My question is now that I opened my old file in 7 pro, when I go to publish it will it still write to the same folder in a similar fashion? I would think some of the css actions may be updated in the process but for the most part it should stay the same, correct? Also, when I added pictures to a Showcase gallery they would end up in a folder called “Resources”… Do you know if that will still be the case?

Thanks!

The site folder should remain the same.

FWIW, it’s really worth spending the few minutes to setup the ftp directly in FW. It will only upload files that have actually changed and so is much faster to do as you work.

If you go to Document Setup in the File Menu and choose the Upload tab. You will probably need to set it to sftp. Your hosting company will have given you your server/password details. Leave the port empty. For the directory, use your normal ftp client to navigate to the folder/directory where you host your site and copy the address. Your ftp client will probably have a menu item for doing this, for example, I use Fetch and it is called ‘Copy Web Address’. It gives me the full file path to that directory. That’s all you need to do.

Okay great, that’s what I was hoping/expecting since it’s an update to the same software.

I would really love to have that functionality working, believe me. I tried very hard in the beginning but kept failing… Then downloaded that 3rd party FTP client per recommendation of Softpress… It’s a little duck, can’t think of the name.

Everytime it would get close, it would fail. Then the duck app would work but for the smaller updates.

I’ll try again because that would be phenomenal to just have it publish as it should!

Cyberduck : Cyberduck | Libre server and cloud storage browser for Mac and Windows with support for FTP, SFTP, WebDAV, Amazon S3, OpenStack Swift, Backblaze B2, Microsoft Azure & OneDrive, Google Drive and Dropbox

I’ll stay (forever) with the best FTP client there is; Transmit : http://panic.com/transmit/

… and use FTP-Mode “Passive” (which worked for me in 100% of all cases) whilst all the rest often enough didn’t work (but this is server issue - not Freeway).

Cheers

Is cyberduck better than filezilla for freeway?

Use the same settings that you have for the ‘duck’ in FW and you will be GTG.

Points to note:

Upload: FTP is usually fine

1 - Server: www.yourwebsite.com

2 - Directory: /public_html/ or similar

3 - Username: yourusername

4 - Password: yourpassword

5 - Web address: http://www.yourwebsite.com

6 - FTP Mode: try Automatic and see how it goes but if that doesn’t work try Passive then Non-Passive

You shouldn’t need port numbers if you use plain FTP

FWIW, I put a word in for Fetch, which is one of the original Mac ftp clients.

I don’t need port numbers using sftp and Fetch.

(Also … pretty straightforward to use are its Automator actions to setup a Dropbox style ‘one-click’ upload, which puts the file address on your clipboard. Just add it as a Finder ‘Service’ or a drag and drop app. The grabs show you all you need
