[Pro] Transparent color blocks

You can teach an old dog new tricks!
I re did the page and the key was UN layering. Actually this allowed me to have the transparent
overlay to go across the jpg and extend beyond the sides as I originally wanted it to do.

Wish there were classes for Freeway here in Michigan!

Another way to achieve exactly the same thing is to draw things out,
leave them as layers (or not), and group the objects. The group
object (that is created to group, or contain, your graphics) can be a
layered item and the visual effect will be the same.

Wish there were classes for Freeway here in Michigan!

But at least there’s help in cyberspace.

An alternative method using layers:

Drag the JPEG onto the page. Draw a box on top and fill with a translucent colour. Text can also be translucent.
For both objects, select ‘Layer’ and deselect ‘Combine with Children’.
In the Graphic Item inspector, click the ‘Item Output Setting’ tab. In the Type menu, choose ‘PNG’. In the Colors menu, choose ‘Millions’.

Freeway publishes the JPEG with a translucent overlay and text. The overlay and text are saved as a PNG with an alpha channel.

I am excited to discover a new, inexpensive tool for website owners and designers. With this you can put a link on your site from which potential customers can contact your cell phone right from the website itself. You can then text back immediately answering their questions right on their computer while they are still connected to your website.

Statistics show that when a person is on a website, they are more apt to contact you by email then by phone. This means that if you are away from your computer, you will still get the message right away. Plus, this is another source of revenue if that appeals to you or to any one you know.

I am excited to discover a new, inexpensive tool for website owners
and designers.

Points to note:

  • Chat To Text is marketed using what is essentially a pyramid
payment scheme. This may well account for the (over?)-enthusiasm of
    some users.

  • As the signup page reports at the bottom, using the link provided
does mean that “your sponsor is Tobe Saskor”. Nothing wrong with
that, but it should be mentioned up front.

  • Chat To Text does offer something that some web site clients would
    probably find very useful.

  • Chat To Text is only available in the US and Canada.

  • Part of this sort of feature could well be achieved through other
means: a number of mobile phone contract companies offer ‘email to
SMS’ gateways, where all you need to do is set up a basic email link
to ‘phonenumber@mobiledomain’ and the text of the message is pinged
as a text message to the recipient.

Of course, using a simple PHP script to process a form to achieve the
same thing means you can enforce sub-140 character messages - but
this means slightly more work than something like Chat To Text.

Personally, I like that this tool exists and I think it provides
something that some clients would find useful.

However, I am Not At All keen on the marketing. It absolutely reeks
of hard-selling, over-selling, pyramid selling, shuckster ethics. I
don’t even like the way the video doesn’t show you how much there is
to play and doesn’t even provide any means of controlling playback.

BTW, I noticed in the ‘earnings disclaimer’ page on the
chattotext.com site this statement: BY PURCHASING THIS SERVICE YOU
HEREBY AGREE […] TO NEVER SEND UNSOLICITED COMMERCIAL EMAIL.

[ahem]

Statistics show that when a person is on a website, they are more
apt to contact you by email then by phone.

What statistics? Seriously, statements such as this must be
verifiable. I’m not saying this is incorrect, but I want to see the
studies that produced those statistics.

I would say Tobé post is more akin to spam, particularly since it has nothing to do with topic.

chuck a muck?

Tobé has been a participant in Freewaytalk in the old days so I don’t feel
it is like I remember him in that it didn’t feel actually like sharing
anything personally inspiring - the posting just pasted the phrases of a
sales pitch.

Its enough just to invite relationship on a grounded footing.
Keith addressed this succinctly and with courtesy.

in the old speak - love the sinner - hate the sin.

I’m under the impression that Tobé doesn’t really believe it himself or he
would have been a lot more convincing as well as opening within his own
thread. Maybe there’s hard times hitting people into trying to be what
they’re not.

I try not to get messaged or rung on my mobile - how’s a man to stay in
touch with the wonder of life if the phone keeps going off!
But lots of folk feel right at home in perpetual distraction.
There’ll be an implant soon to be perpetually networked. People with weird
twitchy eyes will be seen as ‘mousing’.

Am I wandering off topic here!

all the best
Brian
