[Pro] Two schemes for file download link: neither's working!

I created my fairly simple site (http://galvanicmac.com) in FW Pro 3 or 4 with a provided template and have successfully migrated it to FW Pro 5. On my Links page, I want to create a link to download an application rather than to go to an external site.
I could either A) have this create a new page that tells the user that it’s downloading, or B) just have the download start without leaving the links page. I’m having trouble doing either of these.
The reason I can’t do A is that when I’m in the Edit Hyperlink dialog, (Internal tab) and I choose “new page” it creates a new master that has a text overflow that won’t publish. It’s in the top left button that is part of the template that I didn’t make. It’s like my Master got corrupted or something. I’m worried that this is going to be a problem going forward for any new page try to create!
The Problem with B is that I just don’t know how to start a hyperlink download without jumping off the page. I’m pretty sure that this is simple but I can’t figure it out. Is it in the Target part of the Edit Hyperlink dialog? I have created an external link that points to the file on my server and I’ve gotten the download to work. But It jumps to a page that gives a 404 error. How can make the page stay put and just have the user see their downloads window pop up?

Are you talking about the Mac HelpMate link? That works just fine here in Safari. Where are you seeing a different result?

You don’t need to put anything in the target or otherwise, just a plain link to the absolute URL of the file (and you want to upload that file to your server, too).

Really?!?
I was getting a landing page that is a “page not found” error 404"
Then, I had to re-load the page to get the download to start. The URL that is in the URL bar at that point is the right one for the file.
I just emptied my cache and now it’s fine!
Thanks, Walter!
Any ideas about the Overflowed cached/corrupted master issue?

Try making a new page from that master, then look at the page and see what the name of the master is. Double-click on that master page in the site pane, and see what’s on it.
