[Pro] Updating a FWP Carousel with a CMS?

One of my clients asked if they could update their website Carousel using the Perch CMS that I have installed on their website. Quite frankly, I’ve never tried using Perch with a Carousel. Have any of you other Perch users attempted that?

Also, I’m wondering if Wow Slider might be a better solution to allow easy client updates. Any suggestions and/or advice is greatly appreciated.

Hi Kelly,

(thanks for the other post - news that made me very, very happy

ahmm - I can’t speak for Perch cause I never used it, but I could think that it works. In WebYep, I made it once working, by simply turn the carousel-(panes) into editable areas (in my case an entire RichText item). Important to note that the scripty stuff doesn’t clash with some other libraries if there (jQuery eg).

The Caveat:

You have (together with the client) to decide, how much panes in number will be available.

The client at least needs a lil bit of knowledge regarding RichText Editors.

WOW slider is basically an external app that creates a bunch of external code - so in fact it is you that prepares the slider. I am under the impression, that an “extending” by client is as well not to be done (without further knowledge), cause the basic script needs to be extended or the clients needs WOW as app on their machine and requires an ftp client to probably overwrite the basic engine code.

Or are there even Extensions for Perch that let you install something similar? Would be cool and would speak for the strength of the product.

Not helpful - but just a summary of my current knowledge.

Cheers

Thomas

Hey Thomas. Thanks for your post. Yeah, I wasn’t sure how Wow Slider worked. I’ll probably have to give this some more thought and experimentation because the one thing I don’t want is my client mucking around with the code.

On another note, the comments I made were totally deserved. People like you, Walter, Ernie, Todd, Dave and others make enormous contributions to the Freeway community and every now and again it doesn’t hurt to get a pat on the back, especially with as much @%#! as we take from unappreciative clients.

Which reminds me. I meant to tell Ernie how much I liked this statement on his website: Making awesome stuff for people who appreciate it.

you can combine webyep with Walter’s/freeway’s scripty carousel where by you can change the main images and thumbnail images. Its also fairly easy to create a slide show with webyep as well without the client doing any coding… but I am not sure about perch, although I am sure one of the perch experts can help you there.

if you need examples or descriptions then let me know and i will dig them out

all the best max
