[Pro] updating my site

Hi,
I’m upgrading from Freeway 5.5 pro. I want to slowly make my site more dynamic. Right now my measurements are 800 px width and 900 px hight. Is there any standard regarding these dimensions. I thought I’d make it larger. Also I will select HTML 5? Any other help on how to proceed would be helpful.

OK I just read through the extended reference for Freeway 7. It looks like I will need to rebuild my menus using Responsive CSS Menu Action?

This might be one of the things to do - perhaps there are a couple of more challenges left:

####Physical Widths

Pixel defined widths are constraints made on assumptions. We assumed (the best we could) which devices our artworks is displayed on. This is a relict of the past - the flood on different devices is overwhelming.

Today we deal with “relative” measurements such as percent to express our wish, displaying a page on all devices the best we can:

Simple example:

Assumed the “page-width” (a term which doesn’t really exist btw) is 75%, it will take place on all devices.

####Downside

It will force you into a new “construction-method” which is far off the known.

####I’m honest:

I have no idea at all how to work and how to tackle if keeping the current (beloved) positioning method of simple drop and drag.

This method is called absolute positioning and allows you to re-arrange items (if you upgrade to FreewayPro 7), and set some “breakpoints” to extend the range of devices. But to me it’s still this “guess what device the page will be displayed on”. This is just because I do not know it better, so I do good not to comment this further.

####One thing you can’t fail with:

See a modern web-development as “authoring”, take the chance of taking the inventory and (if necessary) review your content strategy. Start strictly with content - design is just decoration.

Keep the current project as is - not trying to limp it into the new world as if there would be no tomorrow. You can keep both versions of FW - so I’d keep the “old” stuff on FW5 and create a “new” file on 7 (even based on a copy).

Cheers

Thomas

Thank you Thomas for taking the time to answer my questions. Eventually I will rebuild my site using the inflow percentage method. Change is hard.

Best regards,
Hugh
