[Pro] Uploading set Up to Sub Folder

We have several domains hanging off of our main site. I usually just use Transmit to upload, but thought I’d try FWs built in version.

I’ve set it all up and used /public_html/oursite.com a the directory, but FW says the directory doesn’t exist. It does exist and I’ve already uploaded the site through Transmit.

Our main domain is in /public_html, so I figured I’d set it to go to the sub directory, but it doesn’t seem to be working.

Freeway just wants public_html in the directory field unless you want to upload into a sub directory in which case you add public_html/myfolder in which case ou need to create the folder on the server first using Transmit.

I did that. There is a folder and I set it up as /public_html/mysite.com. But, FW says the directory doesn’t exist.

We have a few sites in sub folders. If I go to just /public_html, it will throw all the files from the sit into our main site folder, won’t it? I definitely need the sub folder, right?

The directory is in all caps, for some reason, if that matters. I didn’t create it.

There is a folder and I set it up as /public_html/mysite.com

But you cannot have a folder called mysite.com - it is not valid.

It could be /public_html/mysite

Have you looked at what is on the server with an FTP app or through the File Manager in CPanel

Yes, it’s set up as MYSITE.ORG.

We have others set up the same way and they work fine through Transmit.

Maybe I’m using the wrong terminology. We have our main site with other sites in that same /public_html area. Some of these folders contain other web sites that can be gotten to directly through their URL.

So how do you upload to them?

The path in Transmit cannot be /public_html/mysite.com - this is not a valid path.

It may work depending how your server is configured as a URL ie mysite.com

It sounds like you have a Web Host Manager

Well, it’s all done through HostGator. These are all separate domains hanging off of our main area.

Our site sits in mysite.com. Inside that there are sub domains (I guess you’d say?). So, I might have hersite.com inside our /public_html folder, hissite.com also in there, etc.

When you set up a subdomain in a site with Cpanel, which is what Host Gator uses, it most definitely is/can be something.com. I have had the same problem with Freeway telling me the folder does not exist. I have had issues off and on with Freeway not wanting to upload to a folder, for whatever reason.

I don’t know the full answer to your problem, Bob, but I know what works for me, and that is to use ExpanDrive, which just happens to be on MU Promo today for 50% discount. You connect to your site with ExpanDrive in a secure fashion, and it makes your site just like another folder on your hard drive. Then, instead of FTPing your files to your site, you just select the folder you want to publish to. It’s like it’s doing a local publish, and I have not had any problems publishing that way. I have been using it for a couple of years.

My two cents worth.

If the new site that you have set up is available at whateveryoursiteiscalled.com then simply put that in the server box and leave the directory blank

So Server would be: www.whateveryoursiteiscalled.com

And Directory: /

Thanks, gang!

I’ll check out ExpanDrive, Robin. Thanks for the tip.

Dave, I will try just using the url and see what happens.

I know in the past I did this just how I said earlier, using Freewway, and as far as I know it worked OK.
