[Pro] Uploading with Freeway

This question isn’t some much about why uploading with Freeway doesn’t just work smoothly, like uploading with Fetch does, but why, when it fails, does it always have to start from the beginning? If I have 2500 items to upload, and it stalls out after the first 1000, if it’s comparing files and keeping track of what on the target server is current, why does it have to re-upload the first 1000 times all over again. It can take many hours of starting over to do a complete upload with Freeway, and passive, non-passive, automatic setting makes no difference. With Fetch, maybe half an hour with no restarts. Not that it’s not great for uploading a few pages at a time, but sometimes it’s necessary to start from scratch.

This may be an issue peculiar to your server set up.

Where is your site hosted and under what plan ie Windoze, Unix, Linux etc. and what sort of package do you have?

I have experienced major site rebuilds/uploads when making a change to a CSS style but I haven’t experienced the sort of stalling issue that you have.

The simple answer is that most FW users do have a smooth upload experience and it would probably be worth your while to save your FW upload log and send it in to support(at)softpress.com to see if they can see something strange.

Thanks for the tip. This last time, I actually made it all the way down to only 85 items remaining out of 2500 before I had to start all over again. I’ll check out those server side settings.

It may not be something that you can influence.

Best to send the upload log into Softpress. Make sure that the tickbox to save the log is checked. You will find that tickbox in the File>Upload dialogue box down in the bottom left. Save Log

The subsequent log file can be found in User>Library>Logs>Freeway 5>FTP Logs
