[Pro] Uploads - Is the Softpress Knowledgebase current?

I have a largish ( a few hundred pages if you include “open in other windows”) site which uploads itself each time I make a change. (Built in 2006 I think with FW 4)

I have found an article dated 2009 on the knowledgebase

recommending a common resource folder and perhaps using an FTP ‘sync’ application.

All of that makes sense, but is the advice current?

How do I tell apart from asking here or emailing support direct?

cheers,

P

There have been a number of improvements very recently in the upload code, particularly one bug where capitalized filenames were causing those files to upload regardless of whether they were updated or not. If you haven’t updated to the very latest version of Freeway, that would be a good thing to try.

Another area to look is Actions. Some of the Actions can cause all pages to be dirty on every publish, and there’s no way around that. If you want the functionality that the Action brings, you have to put up with the full-site upload.

Using a third-party FTP application to mirror your Site Folder with your server’s site root will only help in the former case, not the latter. If it’s an Action causing this, then the files are being uploaded because they ARE newer than the version on the server.

Thanks Walter, I had a few “discussions” with the support guys over the capitalisation thing some time before the knowledge base article was written, so made a concerted effort to rid my sites of them.

Actions are not going however!

From memory getting rid of the capitals caused a bit of grief at the time, and I ended up having to remove all folders from the server. I suspect there are still some ghosts around so a fresh “sheet of paper” will fix that!

Cheers,

Peter

I have to apologise, although Walter knows the issues off by heart, and answered my question (!) the article I was referring to was this one:

“Freeway uploads the entire site each time a page is edited”.
