[Pro] uploads not taking effect

I can’t figure out where the problem is. Freeway, Filezilla or Yahoo. Random changes are taking effect on this website. I don’t know where to look to begin to fix it. I need a fresh pair of eyes. Thank for the help.

This page is the one giving me problems. it views fine on my iPhone but not in the browser. 2018

It’s pretty much impossible for us to see what you’re seeing. If you post a screenshot of what you see in your browser, and then we can compare our view of your site to that, then maybe we could tell what was wrong.

Without looking, my guess is that you are running up against the common cache problem. When you look at the same site in one browser, your browser will cache all the resource files that are part of that page locally (on your Mac) so that it doesn’t have to download them again. That cache will take a while to “stale out” and allow the new files to download, particularly if the files in question are images or stylesheets – both things that servers tend to be configured to send with long time-to-live headers.

You can force your browser to clear its cache by using the (often hidden) Empty Caches command. In Safari, this is hidden in the Develop menu (which itself is hidden from normal view, unless you go into the Advanced pane of the Preferences dialog and check the “Enable Develop menu” option there). Other browsers will have this option as well, just hidden somewhere else. Once you locate it, navigate to a different page or site, then choose that command. The next time you visit the page, you will get a complete download of everything. If that clears up the problem, you should be good to go.

I don’t believe it’s a cache issue. The problem is the same on three different browsers. Here is a dropbox link showing what it should look like. Evenly spaced graphics. I’m about ready to recreate the page. Would like to know where the problem exists rather than abandon it. Thanks, Walt

It is also worth noting that ISPs will cache files too. It leads to all kinds of problems, as they don’t always “let go” when you upload new versions. You get old CSS styling new HTML, or JavaScript doing stuff that’s a few iterations behind what you have locally.

I wrote an Action that tacks a ?v= on the end of requests in HTML for CSS and JavaScript files. Apply to the root folder of the site, and click the button in the Actions Palette before you upload. The whole site will be rebuilt (the version number will change each time you click the button), and uploaded.

I can‘t say if this will solve your problems, but it can’t hurt to try and see if it does make a difference.

Hmm - it’s there and running. Try again?
