so i downloaded a freeway file from “freeway style” that made use of “carousel”. the thing works fine, except the “tabs” (little circle buttons that move to the next image) don’t show up - with the exception of the present pictures button. this kind of makes it hard to change pictures. The file apparently was made in an older freeway… but no amount of experimenting with it have yielded what the preview does - specifically this:
.tab a, .tab a img { background: transparent url(Resources/tab.png) top left no-repeat }
.tab a img.active, .tab a.active img { background: transparent url(Resources/active.png) top left no-repeat }
You have to remember that this is not an out of the box FW example. The extra styling is to make the tabs appear as they do.
Go back to the file you downloaded and look in the styles palettes to see if those styles are in there - if they are then they will need to be included.
I haven’t looked at the example so I have no idea what instructions, if any, are included.
Now that I have downloaded Tim’s example file I see that those extra styles are added by the Carousel Tab Button action.
Can you clarify exactly which version of Carousel you are trying to use. You mention Carousel 2 yet Tim’s example uses Carousel (the original) which is V1
Not sure if the Carousel Tab Button action works with Carousel 2
hey thanks for the advice. sorry for any ambiguous - ness. I am quite new to freeway. Anyway. I had downloaded the example carousel file, and when previewed in my version (7.03) only the “tab” that is selected shows, the unselected buttons do not. I then assumed there was a version problem, and tried to replace all of the “carousel 1” with carousel 2 actions. Which didn’t not fix the disappearing tabs (which still work, just are invisible)
now as far as the objects having a “style code” i am uncertain where to look to determine this. (as the “style” window appears to contain only “text style” info)

I thought I had explained that the styles were added by the Tab Button Action?
And that the Tab Button Action is for Carousel 1 not 2
And that I have no clue if the Tab Button Action even works with FW7
We will have to ask Tim (the action writer in this case)
apologies. i have, however, figured it out - in a round about way. since only the selected “button” would show, i duplicated their group, removed the actions from them, and then put them behind the “actioned” group. thus getting this result (which works)
I took a look at the Carousel Tabs Action and it appeared that under Freeway 7 it was failing to locate the div (HTML item) that holds the tab images. Without this the CSS that displays the button images just won’t work. I’m not sure at the moment why this should work in FW 5 and 6 but not in 7 but I’ve updated the Action (and Freeway example) to work with the latest version of the application. This new version also uses Walter’s Carousel 2 rather than the original Carousel Actions.
Freeway 7 no longer wraps a drawn image in a DIV unless it really has to. It just uses the image as its own positioning object. This throws the original Carousel off quite a bit, too.

I was hoping that the Carousel question here was about utilizing it in a responsive manner. I’ve not had any luck getting it to work in a responsive layout. There’s even a question in the comments thread about seeing if Carousel 2 works responsively. Anyone know of a tutorial or site example that shows this (or any other similar action) can achieve a responsive carousel slideshow?
Look at an alternative such as Exhibeo, Hype, Wow Slider - there are thousands out there.
Thanks David. I’m one of those Luddites who is still on OSX 10.6.8 so I have yet to use Exhibeo. I’ll look into WowSlider although I was hoping for something ‘native’ to Freeway like the Carousel Actions or similar.
