[Pro] Using Quick Time Movies

Is there a way to incorporate Quick Time movies on a web page allowing Windows users to view them without the need to have Quick Time in their computer? Do they need to be converted to a specific format? And what method is used to get them to load the quickest way?

There is a way to do that and it’s called using Flash. Flash can play H.264 encoded QuickTime movies and since the Flash browser plugin is typically installed by default there isn’t a need for a specific plugin or anything.

You might be able to use Freeway’s FLV Player which will allow you to attach a video and use a standard Flash Player that will be able to wrap around your video to play it. I’m not 100% sure on that, but it’s worth looking into.

Most computers, even PCs, have QuickTime installed. The iPod has seen
to that, because owning an iPod means installing iTunes, and
installing iTunes (on a PC) means you have installed QuickTime. It’s
the camel’s nose under the tent. And it’s a mighty large camel.

If you use the normal Freeway method of adding a QuickTime movie to
your page, then you also install the code necessary to load the
ActiveX version of QuickTIme for the few people who still don’t have
it installed. Upon visiting the page, the user will see a popup
telling them to activate the control, but they don’t need to install
anything for this to work.

In the latest version of Quick Time that arrived with Snow Leopard there is a Save for Web option (File>Save for Web) which outputs versions for the iPhone, other phones and computers. I havn’t really explored it fully. There is also a screen recording function as well which could prove useful when trying to explain something on this forum for example.
