Of course it’s old news, but I’d like to post a huge thank you to Softpress folks for the Styles editing dialog. It’s a work of genius.
Customizable list of elements! Inspired interface. I assume this means makes choosing which CSS tags have to be written in code much easier for the program. And it shows me exactly what I’m doing: which elements I’m specifying.
Fantastic! Can’t thank Softpress enough for this triumph. Now, I just have to learn how to use them.
Not sure what you mean by “anti-CSS.” Or was that supposed to read something like “Be prepared for an antique capability. CSS support is way behind…”
Seeing that I know little about CSS, any support of it is good by me. I can see that there are aspects of CSS’s capabilities that seem to require FW’s Extended dialogs, which are painful to use at best.
But just having come from v3 to v5, the new Editing dialog is terrific. Maybe when I learn more about CSS layout I’ll be more critical!

Indeed. As far as editing CSS goes we have our fingers crossed that Softpress will include full CSS support in next version, but for the time being many of CSS more glamorous features can only be applied through the editors Extend option.
Ah, hence the reference to macrabbit somewhere I don’t remember. Well, FW’s CSS may be behind the times.
I still like the Edit Styles dialog in general. This at least feels like a great leap forward. I can see that most of what’s gone on in FW between v3 and v5 is under the hood, concerning output. Most of the program works pretty much the way it did. The palettes work the same; their tabs can’t be broken out. Find and Replace is still exactly the same old woefully clunky. In fact, other than new icons, I seem to be working with v3. I understand the output is much better, of course.
So seeing a much improved Edit Styles is making me feel good, like it should!
I’m glad you’re liking the editor. Even though the Styles editor is,
for many of us, a very big problem there’s no question that it shows
an improvement between v3 and v5, albeit not nearly enough. Hopefully
v6 will make the rest us as happy with the CSS editor too. The
competition seems to be setting the [user-friendly] CSS bar pretty
high by comparison.
Just a quick look at the screen shots for CSS Edit made my Postscript based head swim. So for now, I’m happy. Maybe if more web work comes my way, I’ll be deep into CSS some day. Maybe!
Not sure if this is the right thread for this so I have posted it in a couple of places. I have just upgraded to FW pro 5.4.1 (6282) so this is possible starting point in case there is a connection. Or maybe I’m thick. Being a good boy I want to use external css files using the page action ‘use external style sheet’, rather that rely on the default inline css styles by placing the styles in each page. I have put the css file in my site directory (called main.css) and there is a correct link to it it the html code of my master page in FW. Here’s the source code: Problem is that no matter what I do I cannot get the styles and colours palette to give me an option to apply it. Its driving me nuts-I have work to do and I can’t move forward at all. There just seems to be no way at all that FW can see the CSS style options in the main.css stylesheet when I want to apply them during editing. Surely I’m missing something!
Am I being dumb or is there a bug? (those appear to be the only 2 options!
Hi Martin,
Unfortunately the Use External Style Sheet action won’t let the
application ‘see’ any of the styles contained within your ‘main.css’
file. Your best best would be to add the style sheet to the project
using the Edit/ Styles dialog box (click on the cog drop down menu and
select the import option). You can then switch the page style sheet
using the general tab in the Inspector palette and see and apply the
styles using the Styles palette.
Freeway will either write the styles internally (in the HTML document)
or to an external file depending on the ‘use external stylesheets’
checkbox option in the Output tab of the File/ Document Setup dialog.
I hope this helps. If not please let me know.
Regards,
Tim.

Hello Tim
Yes-thank you, that does help a great deal. I have actually sent a sample Freeway file plus external css file to Keith Rigley at Freeway Support and he is having a look at it for me.
I will pursue your suggested options. Thank you very much.
