[Pro] Vertical Menus

I am using a vertical menu as the main navigation on a website. http://www.uccl.org
The menu appears as different lengths when viewed in different browsers often extending below the bottom of the web page. I’m assuming that this condition exists as a result of different browsers rendering text differently. The condition exists whether I use Text Link Style or CSS Menus. How can this type of menu be created to avoid this problem?

I think it’s going to come down to fixing the design up a bit. You have plenty of space to rework this navigation, or even better, to regroup the navigation in different areas. You could probably break down the ‘About Unity’, ‘Welcome’, ‘Contact Us’, ‘Photos’, ‘Outreach’, etc into a horizontal navigation and then work in the others into the pages themselves. When I first looked at it I wasn’t sure the sidebar was navigation because it’s just in an odd spot. It’s like there’s all this information, but it’s spread out and it just doesn’t sit right.

Even better would be to categorize things together and then use sub-menu’s to clean up the space. So for instance, Outreach could have a sub-menu with ‘Men’s Group’, ‘Story Circles’, ‘Angels of Kindness’, ’ Music Ministry’, ‘Adult Eduction’ and so on which would clean it up a bit. That would eliminate the height problem.

BTW, I’ve been by this church several times. I live about 25 minutes away from there.

Dan, thanks for the input. I was approaching it as a technical problem when as you pointed out it’s a design problem.

Thanks again,

Jacob

Well hopefully there’s something that helped out there. I look forward to seeing how it turns out and how you’ve chosen to solve the situation.
