[Pro] Website Host

Just a quick question. I have had a bandwidth issue with my present host, Heart internet, and I am interested in transferring to iPage.com

Has anyone had experience with them? Good or Bad?

My website is very small and I may be thinking of adding another domain to support my hobby of Golf & Photography.

Thank you for looking.

Peter.

Don’t know anything about iPage but I can wholly recommend Vidahost:
https://www.vidahost.com (which is also a UK-based company, so would
probably suit you better).

Thank you Roger. I didn’t like the high handed, intransigent attitude of Heart. Now I’ve told them I wanted to leave they seemed to have softened and re-opened my account. Their pricing is expensive but iPage do seem very attractive with what they offer and even though it is a promotional price at £1.19 per month + vat for the first two years, the following two years is still the same as one year at heart.

I’m off to work now. The saying better the Devil you know than the Devil you don’t seems appropriate just now but for example submission costs at iPage is half the price of Heart.

Thanks anyway for the recommendation. Heart started out like that but over the years things that were free and someone to talk to have now diminished to pay for everything and ticket contact only. Sad.

Peter.

I’d highly recommend you stay away from iPage. Everyone I know who has used it hated it.

There are very, very, few good web hosts out there, and they are very difficult to find. As a rule of thumb, stay away from anyone who offers unlimited amounts of anything, and avoid hosts owned by EIG (iPage, FatCow, HostMonster, Bluehost, HostGator, and many more).

Although I now run a VPS through Digital Ocean for my stuff, I’ve used A Small Orange for shared hosting in the past and been very impressed with them. However, since I left them they have been acquired by EIG, so I don’t know if this will still be true. At this time, any clients I’ve pushed in their direction have been very happy.

Also, be wary of those review websites. The vast majority of them seem to be owned by EIG and are essentially propaganda. The one review site that I do trust is Reviewpon, I know the guy that runs it and he is very transparent in his review process.

Freeway friendly affordable hosting with backup from a guy that knows the intricacies of FW well.

Completely agree and seconded. Excellent service, never let down.

Though I think Dave O might have a wee chuckle to himself.

To Caleb, Dave & Seoras Thank you all so much for replying and to Caleb for the very in depth reply.

I actually rang the website Dave mentions last evening and I think Dave Owen was the guy I spoke to. He highlighted the problem why my account had been suspended by heart Internet and at first they would not re-open it. My fault entirely. I uploaded a video of a collision I was involved in for colleagues on our Forum to view and comment. Silly me, the bandwidth got exceeded.

Anyway, I hate not being able to talk to a human and as they wouldn’t re-open my account, I had a look around. When I mentioned I was leaving they sort of capitulated and re-opened the account. So rather relieved that I didn’t have to go. iPage looked great on the surface but their after offer prices were quite a bit steep.

So thanks to all, It’s only a lowly Driving School website but I like it. Done originally with WP X5 on Windows I migrated to an Apple Mac and needed another web publishing program. Hence why I am here on Freeway.

Good night all.

In fact looking at http://www.ineedwebhosting.co.uk/ it’s what I need. I’ll have another look tomorrow.

One question though, my site has a good index and appears on the first page on most searches. If I migrate to another host, does all that indexing disappear from a SE or not? Does the SE process start all over again?

This might be a daft question or not but as I tell my Students, there is only one daft question and that’s the one you don’t ask.

Peter.

As long as the domain name and the page links stay the same, changing hosts should have no negative SEO effects.

If you need anything on this - I heartily recommend pair.com.

Use this link to sign up and I can get a buck or two - but that’s not why I recommend them.

1 - stable
2 - reliable
3 - fast support
4 - never ever ever had any problem or billing issue - ever.

Use this link and click on the banner.

Their “new” plans would host most average sites for $5.95 a month with an 8 percent discount for 12 month prepay. No setup fee presently and if when you read this there is one let me know and I’ll give you a promo code to waive it.
