Hi, I’m wondering if anyone has a solution to a WebYep login issue I’ve just come across with my own website.
I tried to login to my site with WebYep but after I entered my details the page went blank. I can’t edit the page because there is nothing there. I’ve tried uploading my files but still nothing shows up. The page show fine before login but after I type my login username and password the whole screen goes blank.
I made the site with Freeway Pro 5 and it’s been working absolutely fine for the few years I have had it online and I was able to login just over a month ago and upload images and text to my portfolio page so I’m not sure what has happened in the last month. Everything looks as it usually does. The page is php and WebYep init code is there. I’ve just re-uploaded the same files just incase i may have deleted something but still no change. I’ve contacted the host for the site but apparently there should be no problem there.
I’d really appreciate some feedback if anyone has any ideas how to solve this.
I’ve been advised by my webhost to try duplicating the page and see if the new one works and it does. Permissions for the portfolio page are set to 644 and the Webyep data file 777 (webyep system folder set to 755)
Not sure why the new page works as I haven’t changed anything apart the name of the page. (The permissions for the test page is also set to 644)
I created a test page for my site which seemed to work fine on the 17th Jan but when I went to update my portfolio page today I checked the test page first and the page was blank again. This time it was blank before login. I deleted the old webyep system folder with all the data and uploaded a fresh copy of the system folder. I have changed the name of the portolio page to clients.php but still no luck. Nothing is showing up. I can’t figure out what could be affecting the php pages.
“If you see a blank page in PHP, that usually means that your server is (correctly) configured to hide errors.”
However I can’t figure out where these errors are and the test page is a very simple page which should be displaying one rich text webyep item on the page and the main graphics and navigation for the website but page is completely blank. All the html pages are fine.
Please could you let me know if you have an ideas why this could be happening. (Also could you let me know if it works on your browser? The page is now called Mog Fry - Filmmaker)
Hi Mog
The data folder should be set to 777,
all other folders and files should be left as standard (in other words leave them as you found them) as for whats going on on your blank page, I could do with a URL. At the moment I cant check it :o(
From the last online system requirements I read it looks like webyep now requires php 5.1 as minimum which is fairly standard now, as php5 was released way back in 2004 so if your hosting company isn’t running 5 then it really should be. You can check which version you are running by typing in your web address and then follow that with: /webyep-system/info.php
this is assuming your webyep system is at the root of your server and not in a sub folder
Yes I have the data folder set to 777. I’ve also changed the public folder to 711 as all the rest of my sites are set to this. (And the php pages from those sites work fine. Although they may have an older version of webyep?)
I deleted the original portfolio page and created a new page ‘clients.php’ to see if this would work but still no luck. I also created a test page with no graphics and just a webyep login item, an image item and rich text item so there should be no problem with the code in Freeway but this also showed a blank page.
I tried to find the php info at the address:Mog Fry - Filmmaker but it also shows a blank page. (yes the webyep system folder is in the root of the server)
I’m wondering if I may need to delete the entire site from the public folder and start again. I really don’t think there is an issue with the code in Freeway as the php page had not changed in Freeway. I only discovered the portfolio page was blank when I went to upload new content at the beginning of January. I had not changed anything in the Freeway document and before Christmas I was able to upload content.
I checked in the control panel of the hosting and they are running php 5.2 so that shouldn’t be affecting the page. I’ve also created a separate php file in Coda.
<?PHP
print "hello world";
?>
And this is working fine. I wonder if I delete the files and start again this may fix the issue. If not, Max, would it ok to send you the php page to check everything is as it should be?
Just to keep you updated! I was advised to install a fresh copy of WebYep via the online installer which will set the permissions correctly. I’ve done this but still no change. I also notice there is an extra file in the webyep-system folder that I have not seen in the earlier versions of Webyep.
config-inc.dist.php file has been installed as well as the config-inc.php file.
I’ve added a username and password to both files but still no luck. The client.php page is still blank.
Hi Max and Thomas, and anyone who comes across issues with blank php pages in their browsers,
Just to let you know my host has solved the issue. I had too much memory allocated in my .htaccess file.
Intead of using:
RLimitMem 128000000
I would need to use:
RLimitMem max
The php.ini file make further controls:
memory_limit = 32M ; Maximum amount of memory a script may consume (32MB)
upload_max_filesize = 10M ; Maximum upload size
post_max_size = 32M ;
max_execution_time = 600 ; Maximum execution time of each script, in seconds
max_input_time = 600 ; Maximum amount of time each script may spend parsing request data
By the way I have found my webhost so incredibly helpful when I come up against issues and they have always been able to resolve any issues. They deserve a plug on this forum! Thanks www.ineedwebhosting.co.uk!
New problem.
Cannot login to the WebYep page.
I downloaded the latest WebYep system.
Put in the Username and password in the config file.
I have uploaded everything and triple-checked.
I keep getting “Username or password incorrect”
I have used this system on many websites, and just can’t figure out what I am doing wrong.
On a slight tangent I would like to offer something for consideration …
I too have used WY and I know how clients appreciate the convenience of being able to click the lock icon and login from any page. I also know the lock can be hidden so only the site owner knows where it is or a completely separate login page can be used instead. I prefer the latter.
In the past year I have been the target of several (failed) brute-force attempts to hack a CMS demo I had online. I have since come to appreciate the importance of hardening my CMS installations, regardless of the system. So when I see WY users who openly display the login button it makes me cringe. Logins should never be advertised, and by doing so you’ve already done half the work for a would-be hacker.
Not every CMS allows for an airtight lockdown, and certainly WY has its limitations in this regard, but I encourage everyone to do what they can to secure their CMS, whatever it is, even at the expense of some minor inconvenience to the end-user.

I have used WY on this server many times, and still do on several websites. And just checked a couple of them. Still able to login.
