[Pro] What are the options for using fonts othe than "web safe" ones?

I’m not as much a font person as my gf/designer is and she gets tired of me tell her she can’t use certain fonts.

What are the options for using other than the standard web safe fonts?

I saw the thread about FontSquirrel and the Caxton Axction. One thing I didn’t like, was in that instance the action can’t be used on a layered item.

I’d be interested to see what others are using.

Thanks.

Hi Bob I think you’ve got the wrong end of the stick… the caxton action just uses a non layered (on the pasteboard) item to pull in the fonts style sheets etc it has no bearing on where you can use that font.
Along with font squirrels library which is quite big… theres also google fonts as well… in reality there are very few limits on what font you would like to use apart from fonts that are not web ready.

All the bests max

Ah, OK. Thanks, Max. I misunderstood the instructions.

I sort of skimmed over them to just see what it was about.

With Web fonts the Font resource is treated as any other resource ie image so there are no restrictions on construction method.

It just so happens that the Caxton action uses a non layered item to get the font resources integrated - you can do this using FTP as well.

How would I use FTP in conjunction with the Action? Or are you saying instead of the action?

Instead.

FTP the Resources (Fonts) to your server and then use the Font Squirrel CSS included in your page to help display it.

But the Caxton action does it all for you. It was just your interpretation of it that was making it seem more difficult.

Follow the instructions at http://www.actionsworld.com/Actions/Caxton/index.php and you should be fine.
