[Pro] What drugs are y'all taking?

I’ve been using this app for so long now, it’s hard to be surprised when I uncover some aspect of it that feels unfinished or half-assed and has been left so for, well, forever.

Instead of astonishment, what I think I feel is… rage. Outrage, fury, anger, wrath… indignation, pique, annoyance, vexation, displeasure. Ire. Whatever.

Up till now my coping mechanism has been to complain, mainly. I have also tried reasoning, encouragement, shaming and even begging just to get some of the stupidest stuff fixed. It never works. I’ve even been told that some high-ups find my tantrums amusing.

###Here’s an easy example:

Want to globally edit URLs? Easy… just go to menu Edit > URLs and you have a dialog window that lets you do just that… only as long as you manually type in the replacements because the universal macintosh COPY / PASTE DOES NOT WORK IN THAT DIALOG!!! Just then I remember that it’s always been that way… that I always forget after a long enough period of time. Then when I become sick of my convoluted workflow, thinking “hey, here’s this cool feature that let’s me batch edit URLs” only to re-discover that it only allows me do it in the stupidest of all possible ways.

About then the outrage begins.

Anyway, I notice a lot of people here seem ever so immune to the mood swings and bitter disappointments that torment me as a long-time user of this app. So, instead of advice on how to improve my workflow with a chronically inconsistent user interface, I’m wondering what drugs y’all must be taking to dull the letdown, and is there an action that can dispense them when needed?

Okay - I may have to walk that tirade back a little. But so very little
that I’m issuing no retractions, yet.

If you follow the normal user interface, menu Edit > URLs… then you are
presented with a window with a list of URLs used in your document. At the
bottom of that window are a set of buttons… Check, Delete, Edit, along with
Cancel and OK.

If you click the Edit button, there is a dialog pop up with two text fields

  • the original URL and the edited URL. If you try to paste a replacement
URL into the Change URL you cannot use the Paste command from the Edit menu
(it’s grayed out). If you use the Paste key command (cmnd-v) you get the
    letter v. Argh.

However - instead of selecting the URL to replace and clicking the Edit
button, you instead double-click the URL - you get the same edit window.
Only this time a command-v Paste command is honored and the clipboard
contents are pasted into the Change URL text field.

So… I’m still trying to process what this means. Is this successful
operation accidental? Is this a puzzle app, and I’ve advanced to the next
room finally?

I understand this random repeating rage fully. The lack of app-wide consistency is shocking and utterly frustrating. For Mac users common workflow, the expected behavior within the app’s UI just isn’t there. Sometimes it just seems to get worse after every single update. I don’t get it. And this not something that’s surfaced last night … this has been going on for years now.

A couple of years ago, after the release of a long awaited upgrade, I made a remark that all those added bells and whistles were kinda nice … but the fact that so many requests en bugs concerning basic UI behavior and tools like CSS editing still remained unaddressed was just unbelievable.

Freeway needs the ‘Snow Leopard treatment’ ; stop adding and start fixing shit.

By the way, I use kg’s of italian coffee beans.

Gah, that is horrible – I’m logging it now. Sorry for the pain. I hope you at least enjoyed the drugs!

Hey guys, while you have Joe’s attention, why not put together a list of the inconsistencies so he can have his team squash them all.

While we’re speaking our minds, I’ve held off saying this for a few years now but feel I can’t contain it any longer…

Personally, I feel FW is in need of a substantial overhaul to bring it up to modern standards now, both in terms of functions and UI. For too long now I’ve put up with all its little quirks, but they’re slowly eating away at my productivity.

I LOVE FW, and its served me extremely well. It’s support kicks the backside of just about any other software company, and its a great product. But, there’s an itch growing. And it needs a serious scratch…

Come on Joe and softpress towers, make it so!

Cheers
