I had a page with a background graphic and three rollovers, and it was just fine.
I added another graphic and typed in it, and then previewed. It distorted my background graphic horribly, and didn’t slice right.
So, I went back to FW and deleted the text graphic, and then previewed again. The text field was gone, but my background graphic was still distorted, even though I had set back everything to exactly the way it was before!
This has happened so many times, especially while I was making roll overs. I’m following the tutorials PERFECTLY. So what is the deal?
Are you remembering to refresh the browser when you preview. The
browser will store the page in memory to make it faster to load when
you next visit it. Trouble is, when you’re previewing a page that is
always changing, and is on your machine, you aren’t getting/don’t need
any of those benefits. So, each time you preview your site hit the
refresh button (or command-r) a couple of times (one’s usually
enough). Every web designer has to go through this, whether using an
application or hand coding, it’s just one of those things.
If that still isn’t working then go back to Freeway and in the Page
menu choose Force Republish, that will tell Freeway to also clear its
own internal cache. This has to be done a lot less frequently that
clearing the browser cache though.
I hope this helps.

Oh wow. Oh wow. Boy, do I feel dumb. Thanks so much. head desk
While you’re here, may I ask another question? Why is the text graphic field distorting the background graphic? Is there a better way to make an opaque or transparent text field?
I’m importing psd pictures on top of the graphic, and turning them into rollovers. I have unchecked “combine graphics” on the background graphic, so it will slice.

The slice that happens can be very different depending on what object
is behind and what’s in front. Freeway will make the fewest slices
necessary in order to achieve the logical result of what you ask for.
A picture of your project, with outlines visible, would probably help a lot.
(But using ready-made web-optimised JPEGs or GIFs instead of your
PSDs wouldn’t make any practical difference as I’m fairly certain
that’s not the issue here.)
I have been dealing with a persistent problem of pages not rendering properly when there is a simple background graphic box with a color and border placed at the back of my master page. When I use this simple graphic, the site has blotches and blank spaces all over it. When I take it out, it renders properly. I have tried changing this background to an html setting rather than gif, but it makes no difference. I can color the page, but then I have no border and the entire background is this color with no delineation.
I have gone back an forth over the issue with AACTT help, but we couldn’t figure it out.
It seems like such a simple issue and wonder if this is a bug in the program, or if I am just doing something silly.
And I do refresh the page all the time to test and view it
I’ve given up trying to ascertain what the page will look like by using Preview or even the in program connection to Safari, as it never looks the same as when I upload and look at it on the web.
Also having trouble making the html text blocks show the color of the graphic underneath. Some blocks, when I use ‘none’ shows the color of the yellow underlying block through. Other blocks when I use ‘none’ look white. I see nothing different about either and they were entered the same way. A mystery.
After giving a thorough description of my woes, I read the above thread, Waltd gives a really fine breakdown of how to conceptualize the construction of a site and the use of CSS and layering. I went back and rebuilt my own site, and now it works fine.
