[Pro] why oh why ?

Now we all know FW is not perfect (-: but yesterday I was working on my clients site, updated and uploaded several changes, marvellous…BUT TODAY *&$%@ FW for no reason I can possibly understand, yet again, has decided to dirty all the pages - republish the whole damned thing - 280 pages - and no… I have not added or changed any actions, and I have a new battery in my Mac - all I did was delete a column in a table on one page ! so why oh why ?

it takes over an hour and a half to upload all the new stuff with Transmit, really not a happy boy today.

I have been studying in my spare time and yesterday I made my first complete page in pure xhtml and CSS using Coda ( same people who make transmit ), I will be making a few more next week and giving FW less chance to do it’s own thing and ruining my Friday.

I will now get off my soapbox

thanks for listening

If you were using Transmit then why didn’t you just upload the page with the altered table on it?

On larger sites of mine I will often do this if I know that only 1 page has been affected and leave the major upload to later.

Hi DD, normally I would do just that but if you run Transmit in sync or mirror mode at some point you have to reload or at least re-sync everything, might as well get it over with and then when FW is doing what I think it should do, ie just republish the amended files it normally only takes minutes to sync it all.

I use Transmit because there are around 50 megs of downloadable files and brochures, forms to go files, mals ecommerce logos, etc. which I want intact and which I can tell Transmit to ignore. I used to use the upload stuff action but when FW decides to throw a wobbler and just republish everything it took forever so I decided to use Transmit and enter relative links. Also the irritating fact that FW still does not support SFTP which I wanted to use for this particular clients website.

I still like FW for lots of things, the actions, shopping cart etc., and without it I would not be where I am now, but there are many pages which I have decided I can create myself now I have a bit more knowledge using Coda, upload them separately and just link them together manually, keep the FW files sizes down and reduce the risk.

The other alternative is to break the site up into smaller chunks still using FW and link them together.
