[Pro] windows and perch

Hi Folks,

Just wondering if anyone here has used Perch cms on a windows server (with Plesk), and encountered any problems.

Having a real hassle the past few weeks now with not being able through perch’s text editor (I’m using redactor but others are the same) to upload images, everything else woks fine.

The server folk (ukfast) are blaming the cms and perch say its a server issue and I’m stuck in the middle.
Personally I believe it to be a server/plesk issue but no one has a solution.

I’ve never installed Perch (or anything else) on a Windows server. I would bet you’re correct that it’s a server, not a Perch, issue.

Hi Todd,

I wouldn’t have by choice either but the client has a asp.net database to accommodate. I ran perch on my server just to confirm it wasn’t me and it works fine. The perch server test on windows server ran fine also.

Its really frustrating as you can imagine. Perch support have been good if rather brief (trying to be diplomatic here) in their response at times, sadly they won’t talk to ukfast unless via a ticket, ukfast did try. ukfast while seeing an issue have waived their support credit (£60 for 15mins eek) but their patience is waring thin, as is mine and perch’s has disappeared. Thankfully a very considerate ukfast accounts manager.

My client is non to happy. If anyone can think of a way forward with this I’d be eternally grateful. One option could be to use a cheap shared linux server for the cms and just use the windows for the database. Shouldn’t be that way but…

I’m searching Google for similar problems, I’ll let you know if I find anything.

Are you getting an error of any kind or are the images simply not uploading?

The Perch devs are responsive but they can be curt sometimes. Though in all fairness they’re answering questions from many other people besides myself so I do understand if their answers are sometimes too brief.

Cheers Todd.

Initially there were errors but that at least has been resolved, it seems. No errors on server or with perch.

When importing into the text editor (settled on redactor) they don’t appear but they are uploaded to perch’s resources folder, duplicated with ‘sized’ version - which of course in my case is exactly the same as I don’t get a chance to re-size. I can upload ok and they appear fine if using the perch image template, its just via redactor. Pdf’s are fine (they’re going right into the resources folder so fine there) but the other issue is that new pages can’t be created either.

To me its a permissions problem with the images not initially going into the temp folder, perch indicated this. Note; I’m no code expert.

I did find other cms - users of WP, joomla etc. having a similar problem but no answers.

Agree about perch devs; think I tried their patience quite a bit, well to silence really.
