[Pro] WOWslider 7.2 "insert to page" function

Have anyone tried the new function in WOWslider 7.2 “insert to page”?

I rush to tell I’m a newbie with this and still trying to figure it out.

With the “insert to page” function a new browser window opens automatically and all I did in the WOWslider program itself, was easy to implement it on my FreewayPro page. Or not…!

Because when I go back to my FreewayPro page I can’t see any sign of the slideshow. And then when I try to view my page in browser I get the message “One or more HTML files which does not belong to this site will be overwritten. Do you want to continue?”. No matter I press OK or cancel, I don’t get what I just saw previously generated but the WOWslider.

Can anyone tell me how to get this function to work and can anyone tell a link to and ABSOLUTE BEGINNERS GUIDE how to use WOWslider with FreewayPro - a really beginners step by step guide. Thank you so much.

Best…

Claus

While I haven’t had the chance to play with WOW Slider 7.2 yet, I’ve written a guide that will walk you through using WOW Slider with Freeway. Although it’s in the Backdraft documentation, nothing in the article is specific to Backdraft: http://getbackdraft.com/docs/wow-slider

Enjoy!

have you uploaded the essential files to your server? if not you won’t see
anything at all. And don’t forget to define your path in the code to the
serverfolder where your files are waiting to be showed online.

Caleb and Andries, thank you so much for you reply. I will study the manual by Caleb (thank you - appreciate you took the time to help many people with this).

Andries, I know about the path f the folders is important - I wish there was a way FreewayPro could upload this at the same time instead I have to change to a ftp program.

The insert to page seems like such a very easy function. No paste or copy or open html text at all. So if someone finds out how to use with FWP, I’m still very interested in getting ideas.

Thanks a lot.

hi Claus,
really the most easy way in my opinion is:

  • make and finish your slider in Wow
  • when all done publish to a local folder (first option) and check all
  • if OK get the source code
  • on your FW page paste marked header code in Page>html markup>before /head
  • paste body code in Insert>markup element and place it where you want the
slider to be on your page
  • add the pathname of the rootmap before all “src” lines and “a href” lines
  • save and upload your FWsite
  • upload/publish your wow slider now to the server (inbuild ftp, second
    option), check pathnames!
  • open url and see your beautifull slider online
    Success!

Hi Andries, thanks a lot, but I lost you from here (as said, I’m absolute beginner):

  • add the pathname of the rootmap before all “src” lines and “a href” lines - save and upload your FWsite - upload/publish your wow slider now to the server (inbuild ftp, second option), check

Can you please detail a bit more? thanks.

haha if you can’t visualise it, it all seems abracadabra. If you follow the
steps one by one it becomes more clear. Keep in mind that the header-code
tells the browser where it is (location) and your bodycode tells what it is
(content). And on the server those paths must match.
So you have to write in the markupcode where the folder can be found. So
“/data/engine/images/myimage.jpg” will become
“myfoldername/data/engine/images/myimage.jpg”

If you use a Bannerzest slider there is only one line of code you have to
paste in your Markup.
Freeway has its own simple slider action and Exhibeo… perhaps thats an
alternative?

Hi again Andries, thanks again - but - doesn’t really sound like a step-by-step beginners guide to me what you write. I thought WOWslider was about “no code” and now I see you refer to “write the markup code”. What is a Bannerzest slider if I may ask? Thanks for your patience.

HTML Markup is all about the external code you have to add to your site.
Insert>Markup element is a simple drawbox in FW to implement external code
in your page (body). No real codewriting, just copy and paste where you
want something to show up, just like an iframe. Sometimes you have to
change or add something to this code because its not always usuable right
away. Also in WowSlider with “insert HTMLcode in page” you have to add the
right pathname to your files. Its all well documented on the Wowsite.

If thats not your cup of tea its easier to use templates or ask someone to
do it for you. And Bannerzest? Just google it and you can read all about
it. All the best.

Thanks Andries.

Anyone have a step-by-step guide or…? My initial question for function “insert to page” was what it was? WOWslider does not cover a documentation for this for FreewayPro.

Apprecite the input, but this is really what I’m asking for: A step by step manual either with “insert to page” or any other way around.

If you write “Sometimes you have to change or add something to this code because its not always usuable right away” I simply don’t have a clue to go from there… Or “No real codewriting, just copy and paste where you want something to show up, just like an iframe” - I have no idea what an Iframe is?

Please step into my shoes who are beginners only (based on the video tutorial from FreewayPro) before you reply - thanks a lot.

hi Claus,
“Insert to page” is a shortcut to place code on your site where you want
to publish a slider. You have to get and show your pagecode in an editor
first.

A step by step way also assumes you know a little about the used terms. I
suggest you first read FW’s welldone manual. Non coding isn’t the same as
building a site without knowing. You have to do some study first. Sorry.

A step by step manual either with “insert to page” or any other way around.

The problem with the Insert to Page feature in WowSlider is that it assumes that you are working with a finished page.

FW rewrites the Html for your page at publish time if anything has changed or the output html does not match what FW thinks it should be.

As a result if you use insert to Page then every time (subsequent to you doing that) FW will want to overwrite the published page and you are back to square 1.

So you would be better off having a look at Calebs instructions that he offered earlier and doing it the Page>Html Markup way or you will have to redo it every time you Publish or Preview your FW document.

Hi Andries,

I think you right - no web without coding, regardless the promises from both WOWslider and FreewayPro. Better study a bit more, thanks.

Cables instructions seem to be best - thanks DeltaDave.

Thanks all of you for valuable input.
