[Pro] Yeehaa! Finally...Victory!

Many thanks to all who have freely given advice. I’ll be 72 next week and am under treatment for prostate cancer, so I’ve been moving towards mobile-friendly in the midst of much health turmoil. It has been hard to concentrate.

Walter, David, Caleb, Thomas, thatkeith, and many others have patiently given much helpful advice, and Google’s mobile-friendly tool just gave the page linked below a green “Awesome, This Page Is Mobile Friendly.” My first one! One page down, 334 to go!

I know that I have a looonnng way to go in mastering the specifics. But a sincere thanks to all who have so unstintingly given personal advice.

I’m tinkering with the settings on the above-mentioned page. Default, Tablet, and 480 seem to work fine. However, at the smartphone 320, it fits well in the page. BUT there’s a small scroll bar at the bottom when my iPhone reads it in portrait (320) mode. So when you’re scrolling down the page with your finger, it’s unfortunately easy to knock the text to one side.

Is there a way to fix the 320 setting so that it only scrolls down, but not sideways?

(P.S. And I add BigErns to the list above of the many who have been very helpful to me. I appreciate you all.)

Hi Jim,

the very first thing coming up to my mind is to set your page-width to a max-width of 750px (rather setting them to defined widths on each breakpoint - see http://www.kimmich-digitalmedia.com/videos/017_grid-express-part-1 at time something about 1:40).

Secondly, there is the “Facebook” thing which is wrapped in an iFrame that has also a width applied to (450px).

As a rule of thumb for responsiveness:

Avoid any fixed (or absolute) widths/positioning and substitute them by either a max- or a percentage value.

There are some other issues, but it seems that you’re on a good way so far. The page is “table-free” regarding the framework (which I haven’t expected honestly) - so excellent.

Cheers

Thomas

Outstanding “catch,” Thomas! My Facebook Like was indeed taking up a width of 450 pixels. That’s why I had no side-to-side scrolling at 480, but did have some at 320, to accommodate the 450-wide Facebook Like box that I had totally forgotten about.

I went into the iFrame and narrowed the FB width to 300, and all is well now at the 320 phone breakpoint. No sideways scrolling. Many thanks!

Off to bed now, but I will also rewatch your 017 video for further info on width settings.
