[Pro] "you have unknown access"

Dear Softpress,

While working on a Freeway Pro 5.6.4 (6412) document, I suddenly became unable to:

  1. Publish the document - all the resources are listed as missing).
  2. Relink the missing graphics - editing the Resources and relinking the images results in no images being relinked, even after going through all the dialogs to relink them.
  3. Save the document - results in file error dialog.

When inspecting the open file in the Finder, the resulting Info dialog says of the Permissions that “you have unknown access” to the file. How did this happen?

I had been working on the file for a long time - nothing unusual. I performed a “Save As” with a new filename to the same folder, made several changes, then discovered that I could no longer Publish or Save the document, that the resources were missing.

At this point I will have to force the app to quit and lose my changes. I’ve never had this happen before and cannot explain why it is happening now.

I had the same thing happen too last week.

I fixed permissions-cleared the cache of FW
Did a save as (when I could) I also copy / pasted page by page (just the boxes) into a brand new doc.

I also had a ton of crashes happening too.

After said and done - it was ok - but crashed again once… I did a back up x2 and clean sweep of my drive…

To be clear, I am having no crashing issues, all other applications are
functioning fine. I cannot even Save As the file.

Hi Ernie,

We’ve been doing a lot of testing on this problem internally and hope to have a fix available soon. We’re pretty sure the problem is Time Machine related, so turning it off while you’re working on your Freeway document or excluding the directory containing your Freeway file (not recommended) should get round the problem until we do.

The problem makes your file unreadable, but, irrespective of what the alert says, the file will have saved successfully. To make it readable you’ll need to do one of the following things:

  1. Duplicate the file in the Terminal. To do this, open the Terminal, navigate to the directory containing the Freeway file (type "cd " minus the quotes), drag the directory from the Finder onto the Terminal, and hit Return. The type “cp filename.freeway filename-copy.freeway” minus the quotes to make a duplicate. Note that duplicating the file in the Finder does not work, it must be done on the command line.

  2. Restart your machine (logging in and out may also work, though I haven’t tried this).

Sorry for the inconvenience!

Joe
