Hi Kryten,
Double click the layer in the layers palette and in the resulting box uncheck ‘Print’ option and this stops it being published.

Curiously enough, this did work initially and then stopped working. No matter what I did the items on this layer still printed, or at least appeared in the PDF. Re starting Illustrator didn’t correct it, so I deleted the files on that layer.

Very strange, that always works for me in this version. In previous incarnations I had that problem.
The ‘hit and miss’ approach for me is moving those item off the page and publishing, sometimes the pdf will be of just the page, other times it will include the outside area. Sorry, can’t be of any more help here.

Thanks Trev, but to be honest, both InDesign and Illustrator are buggy. 9 times out of 10, I have to force Quit either or both to shut down the Mac when it’s been idle for a while. Only yesterday on the doc we have been discussing, Illustrator just refused to Open it, only Quitting and re-starting solved it.

Yes, the force quitting is a problem I (and a lot of friends) have also, along with Photoshop sometimes, drives me mad.
