Quicktime Movie Action

The manual for Express has the following passage “you may want to have a look at the Flash Extras or QuickTime Extras Actions which can modify the way these files behave when viewed in a browser”

I’m unable to find any Quicktime Action in the software, or in any Knowledgebase article, or on the Actions reference page on the web site. I see an FLV player. I’ve read you can place a QT movie in a HTML box.

Can anyone tell me where to find Actions for QT? I need to have visible controls and to place a reference frame on the player (so people can see what they are playing).

Thanks.

Easy enough.

You first have to drop in a Quicktime MOV file into an HTML item. You can do so by drawing out an HTML item and then going to File then choose Import and then select your MOV file. Next you’ll want to select it and goto Item and hover over Actions and you should see the Quicktime Actions there.

I’d assume you’d do the same thing for Flash, but instead of importing a MOV, you’d import a SWF.

Thank you, Dan. Is there any further documentation for using QT Movies? A tutorial, perhaps? With you help, I found the QT Reference and QT Extras actions, but get an error when using the Reference, and don’t see any change when I use Extras.

Did you see the articles in the SP KnowledgeBase?

QT Reference Action Article’s:

http://www.softpress.com/kb/questions/3/QuickTime+Reference+Movies

http://www.softpress.com/kb/questions/125/Changing+the+appearance+of+the+QuickTime+Reference+Movie+Button

I haven’t had any time recently to put any more FREE tutorials out there and I’ve also been busy messing around with Flux. Perhaps a post about your error message with the action might stir up some help for those people who already use it.

don’t see any change when I use Extras.

Did you look in the Actions palette to see what options are there?
You need to go there and pick which things you want changed before
the output will be any different.

Thanks for the responses. Here is how I’ve been able to resolve my difficulties.

First, you have to draw the HTML box to be larger than your .mov file, as the image won’t automatically resize, and the box may cut off the full image.

Under the File menu you can choose import to bring in a .mov or .m4v file. You can also drag and drop.

You then go to the Items pull down menu, goto Actions, then choose QT Reference and / or QT Extras.

The Inspector allows you to add a controller, Autoplay, change the size, etc…

To access the QT Reference and Extras actions, you must open the Actions Palate, from the Windows pull down menu.

The QT Reference tab in the Actions Palate allows you to select a poster frame and a message on that frame (such as "Click to Play). It has controls for iPhone as well, but this isn’t something I explored.

The QT Extras tab allows you to set the scale of the movie, the Frame (unknown what this does) and the volume.

It seems that you must scale your movie file to the size you want it to play at before bringing into Freeway.

I’m hoping the documentation on the rest of Freeway’s features are better that on using Quicktime movies.

Cool, I’m glad you got it figured out. If you do import a MOV file that is smaller than your HTML item then you can go to Item and choose Fit Box To Content and it will resize the HTML. I just tried it on a MOV file in Express a few seconds ago.

The only quirky thing is with Flash items as they don’t resize properly, but it may just be a Pro version issue.
